I can't find a tutorial to do this. I found only this http://zukfans.eu/community/threads/howto-flash-full-rom-or-update.100/ but I can't use this way because I can't boot in engineering mode.

Can you help me?
Thanks a lot

I saw there's a stable 2.1.049 release "Z1_CN_OPEN_USER_Q4434.1_M_ZUI_2.1.049_ST_ROOT_160903.zip" available on the chinese forum.
Is anyone able to mirror it? I don't undestand chinese and I'm unable to register on baidu to download it from the provided url: http://bbs.zuk.cn/z1/t140627/

Here's the link to the site with the direct download option: https://pan.baidu.com/s/1qYvRL9M
First click on the button with the download icon and the 下载(1.19G) text, then answer the CAPTCHA and click the blue 确定 button. If you can't figure out the text on the image, click on the 换一张 link to get a new one.

It doesn't work, it says the file is too big and it must be downloaded with the baidu client.
Already tried and I'm unable to use the client :crying:

Interesting, I had no problem downloading it. Well, I had to try multiple times because the download is slow and the connection got lost many times but it's down now. I'll test if it works and if it does, I upload it to a "mirror" and share that link. Although it may take a few hours, my upload speed is 0.5 Mbps at best.

Now, the ROM works, but I was unable to install Google Apps. When I started up the phone then went back to recovery to flash the gapps package, it said there's not enough space left; it didn't matter how small package I was trying to flash. When I flashed the ROM and immediately flashed gapps, the opengapps nano was OK (it said however that there are core gapps installed already but there are none), but after starting the ROM there was no sign of any Google related app installed. Probably ZUI disables or deletes them during boot. From the Chinese app store I could install Play Store which works but not the Play Services, I was also unable to restore it from Titanium Backup, so no Google integration with this ROM.

After reboot it won't allow anything to flash: opengapps, benzo, slim, a-gapps, doesn't matter, TWRP always says there's not enough space.

For those who have problems installing the rom with TWRP: unzip rom, go to .\Meta-Inf\Com\Google\Android\, open updater-script using Notepad++
and replace k9 with Z1. There are two places where "k9" must be replaced by "Z1" in order for the rom to be recognized. Wait until it s done installing. Then you will have to wait 5-10 minutes to boot for the first time.

Now, some words about rom. It's ZUI rom, comes with chinese bloatware and the soft isn t properly translated to english. left and right capacitive buttons are not working- they need to be activated in the settings menu. Installing this rom YOU LOSE ROOT ACCES AND CUSTOM RECOVERY AND BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED.

The awesome thing for me, is the smart clock/answer option for windowed cases. If someone could port that to COS, that would be awesome.

I tried to unlock the bootloader but the fastboot command fastboot -i 0x2b4c oem unlock simply doesnt work. The phone is recognized in adb and fastboot mode.
Managed to root the rom with King Root Apk.
Managed to boot in a temporary TWRP recovery with the help of ZUK z1 toolkit: http://xdaforums.com/zuk-z1/development/win-zuk-z1-toolkit-0-1-alpha-t3235964 and from there i just restored my backup made with twrp. Never coming back to ZUI.
