The exynos 5 octa in the sgs4 is more like a dual quad core chipset. One processor for power (quad core cortex a15 ) and one for low power I usage to save battery (quad core cortex a7)

I'm loving my Z now i've got over some teething problems. Battery life i'm getting is 4.5 hours screen on time at 75% brightness and around 24 hours standby. It's lovely and fast, stylish and aside from losing the Sony branding when I foolishly took off the factory fitted screen protectors i'm more than happy with the phone.

If you don't like the 4x4 grid I'd recommend installing a third party launcher, I prefer the Apex one.

Yes I've tried Apex and Nova but then I miss the Sonyness of the Sony launcher, if you know what I mean.

I'm just saying Sony launcher with 6x5 grid would be perfect!!

Still think the phone is awesome!!!

Viewing angles, really people? Yes you do tilt your phone for certain games but common, which lunatic would otherwise look at the phone from a different angle than upfront? It's ridiculous to bash a phone for having bad or not so good viewing angles. As long everything is fairly visible with direct sunlight everything is OK, no? Unlike the Galaxy S4, Sony really changed it's design and put some effort into creating a new and stylish phone. Premium materials are being used, I'm not certain which glass since I've seen speculations about XZ either using CGG and or Dragontrail glass. The power button is astonishing and overall one of the best looking phones around with some pretty impressive specs. Personally I don't use the speakers but can understand if this is an issue for certain people, yet, the reason why is fair and if not liking it, they made a nice alternative by launching the ZL. The flaps might be annoying but that as well is fairly quickly fixed by either purchasing a docking station and Bluetooth headsets/NFC speakers. By the way, there are as well many non water-resistant pones which use flaps to cover the Micro USB port.

I can't comment about laginess, performance or speed since I don't own the phone yet but looking at the specs it should be able to handle everything quite well. No phone has more than 2 GB Ram at the moment and 1.5 GHZ quad-core processor is certainly not outdated yet either. I think anyone who isn't an iPhone or Samsung sheep and fanboy must admit Sony made a pretty decent phone and that the big 3 (HTC, Samsung, Apple) should become big 4 since Sony has become a serious competitor with it's latest releases.

Ok just got the Xperia Z...and i am loving it! What was the whole commotion about the screen..its vivid and bright and i only see washed colors at extreme angles! I guess i am one of the lucky ones to get a better screen? Dont know...Also another point if u convert sounds into high db then the xperia Z sounds as good as a Samsung NOte..Efficient enough!

But the beauty is the whole design and build quality..Kudos to Sony for this! And on top of it developer scene :)

The camera is my favourite feature, it knocks the socks off my old note 2 and my wife's galaxy s3, indoor pics actually look great.
hdr mode video and the ability to take stills while filming is also really cool.

I also like it's looks, it's minimalist, sleek and turns heads.

Also goes without saying, it's waterproof, which having dropped 2 expensive phone in water in the past, gives me some piece of mind, though I haven't tested the water resistance yet!

Couild you elaborate on this? I have a Note 2, and I'm struggling to justify trading it in for the Z or even ZL. It's all about price right now. If I could trade straight up I would but I'm having trouble justifying spending more on the Z. The camera is my most important feature. Is the Z really that much better than the Note 2? I thought I read it was almost the same, if not the Note 2 really was better?

its an awesom phone.
even the sony apps and tweaks that sony have made to android makes it better than vanilla android and shows they spent a long time thinking about it.
awesome phone is awesome.

until you take battery life into consideration.
with web browsing, you might get more than 4 hours on screen time.
with watching videos, about 3.5 hours on screen time.
doing something demanding like real racing 3, prob more like under 3 hours on screen time.

I'm investing in an external battery.
i cannot see any other way around it.

The view angle doesn't bother me at all, as I guess no one tilt their phones like that when they use their phone. Or I wouldn't want anyone sitting next to me to see me doing text messaging. Sure it will just be a bonus though if it has a nice viewing angle. But even it has it, again I won't be using my phone is such a weird angle.

The viewing angles is a feature. Only you can see the screen and no one else.
Indeed.

I have no idea why so many reviews mention 'viewing angle'. Its a phone, who is going to look at it side ways? May as well mark it down as when it's in the car and we are in the house we can't see the screen! Not talking TV here? Like you I see the privacy issue as a positive.

Some people have to find something wrong with XZ.
It's a compliment really if they have to create new issues.
Since when was viewing angles on a phone so important. Lol.
It's not like we have to get up off the lounge and walk up to the screen and adjust it.
Can't wait to get mine.

Look the majority of the people who go around attacking the Z are iPhone and HTC fanboys. Especially the HTC crowd, it's just a sign of their desperation. They know HTC is running out of time and they're doing all the they can to rubbish other brands. The same will happen to the GS4. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, these tech sites don't have the influence many of them think they have. Phones are sold on the shop floor and by the networks and so far so good, the Zs doing very well. That's all that counts and not what haters have to say.

XZ is great ! The only thing I can complain is the lack of loudness from the original speakers..but HTC doesn't even provide their users with handsfree! And sadly there aren't much cooked roms to choose from ...yet. Everything else is brilliant ! Love the Z :victory:

I was considering the S4 and the One before buying this phone. I was an Optimus x2 user and need to upgrade to a phone with these criteria:
- Last a whole day with the 3G turned on
- 5 inch
- 2 gigs of Ram (I only had around 384 MB of ram in the optimus 2 DX)
- Has Jellybean or above (Project butter!)
- And a memory expansion slot (Because I already have a micro sd from my previous phone)

These are pretty subjective criteria. But, it had to be one because I find all three phone has the same spec (Mostly) and should perform with negligible difference.

Now the last criteria made the HTC One out of my selection which leaves the S4 and Xperia Z.

Now, seriously, when you look at it, between the S4 and Xperia Z, which one is the sexier phone?

It was a pretty easy choice for me.
