Question...Why is MetroPCS lacking support for root? LG G4 Stylo (Metro Model # LGSM631)
Just to be clear, my question is "curious" based..(please don't "read into it as a "why not me too "punk attitude"). ;)

##:##############

Thus, tagging onto that. Is MetroPCS "sun setting" G4?

I've been under the impression that the buyout/"merger" agreement with T-Mobile stated MetroPCS would always remain "independent".

The only other time I desired to root, I had MetroPCS Samsung S3. "Ironically" the merger is what forced my LG G4 MetroPCS purchase.

As I'm sure anyone on this thread knows, S3 was CDMA, thus "had to" up date.

Thus I'm "confused" because MetroPCS was "heavily" supported on S3....but I'm finding difficulties with finding. LGSM631 Ver.

Naturally "Supers"("stud developers of devices to assist with root make. *crystal clear* DO NOT FLASH LG HS831 (T-Mobile)...... clearly not a route.

#######################

Finally, I'm hopin some one can help me remember the *OUTSTANDING SUPER" (website name/Guys name) that developed a ROCK STAR tool. for Samsung Root when S3 was peak popular.

It included Lunux "PC" based install....

It was a "old school" "GREEN SCREEN" when using the app.

Of course it used ODIN....but the "software" automatically included the TWRP Recovery and SU...and I *think* even download "Google Aps"

Hoyo folks.

So I'm sure you've all seen the plethora of "Do we haz root?" "How 2 unlok?" "unlok guide here"(which doesn't work) ect. Here in this thread I will attempt to summarize the current status of Unlock, Custom Recovery, and Root for each model.

Some of our devs now have Devices in hand, THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE DONATED! It REALLY helps the entire G4 community! Now we wait with baited breath. :) (No pressure guys)

So without Further ado, here is a list of the status of all devices.

CURRENT Unlock/Recovery/Root Status, in order of success:

H815 (Europe Open model ONLY) -
Unlocked? - YES (Via LG's Official Unlocker)
Custom Recovery? - YES (TWRP info)
Root? - YES (Root Info)

NOTE: LG's offcial unlocker is a PERMANENT change. You cannot Re-lock, if you wanted to send in for a warranty claim. If you aren't willing to do that, lets wait and see if the dev's efforts will pay off with a more friendly unlock (which it may or may not)

H815 (Asia) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked

H815 (USA) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked

H815 (France) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked

H815TR (Turkey) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked

H818P (Thailand) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked

H818N -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked

H811 (T-Mobile) -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work

H810 (AT&T) -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work

LS991 (Sprint) -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work

F500S -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work

F500K -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work

F500L -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work

VS986 (Verizon) -
No to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work, AND no "Enable OEM Unlock" in developer settings.
Have developed a way to unlock the bootloader h815p?

Anyone aware of any development on the 812 Canadian variant. I just got this one. Seems to be locked up solid.
Absolutely none at all. You can root but no bootloader unlocked meaning absolutely no custom Roms or kernels.

With root you can still download your favourite apps and get xposed. So it may suffice, but if you're a next level tinkerer then I would suggest getting a different phone if you still can.

funnily enough - got my hands over an H815 EU, marked CZE, but cannot boot into bootloader with "adb reboot bootloader" :-/

Seems that not 100% of them can be unlocked...

**EDIT**: It was marshmallow's fault.
I downgraded to 5.1 via LGUP and then "Enable OEM" appeared in the developer settings

So i've been think and this seems to be like an easy thing to do. All we gotta do is reverse engineer why the fastboot/bootloader mode isnt booting into. So we search for referense string refering to fastboot mode and we work our way backwards. I will attempt to do this. Ill write up a python script aswell if all goes well. Only thing is i have no idea from which partition in the device to start searching. So if someone can point me in the right direction please that would be awesome. I only have expirence with Motorola and Htc kernels and bootloaders. :(

Could this be mod to U.S. Variants?
I saw another thread someone wanting to create script...to monitor attempt to unlock bootloder, log the failure, try to deduce a work around.

Does Android Studio offer "Pre Baked" sims of phones on market?

If so, Ill gladly help (with prequal....I'm green horn noob).
But learn fast...Especially if a SUPER....finger point..

Aka..I'll run scenarios against Sims.....provide logs to Super to help eliminate what I asdume is "wasted/admin time for a SUPER.

LET ME KNOW....

Its the aboot partition.. But even if u do something u cant flashed ur rev engineered aboot as the original aboot part is signed with lg signature..
We need someone to leak or hack that magic keys just like bump to gain unlock on all lg phones..
Or a exploit in bootloader to flash twrp.

No unlock for Sprint LS991? What about installing TWRP for sprint.

I know that the H811 can have fastboot oem unlock through fastboot mode, does this mean that the bootloader is unlocked? Can this be done for Sprint as well?

Orange ES version IS unlockable

I have an Orange ES version (replacement from a bootlooped one) and both could be unlocked easily.

Also, they replaced the BL unlocked one without major problems.

Hi all.
I am guessing this is a yes, but just to confirm anyway, does unlocking the bootloader wipe the phone?
If yes, does it wipe it entirely? (i.e. do I have to backup photos as well as texts)
TIA

HI, new to rooting, just wanted to check. I have an LG Moto G plus XT1642 (European although I'm not sure how to check via the device)

Unlock bootloader via Motorola site
Root using naldotech.com/how-to-root-lg-g4-h815-using-supersu/

Will I get updates after this, I really just want to change the volume increments via xposed and don't need to install a custom rom.

Thanks

You're in the wrong forum. This is for an LG phone. What you have is a Motorola.
