OP maybe? I will do it but I would rather not deal with it. And it has to be understood that PayPal takes deductions if you want your money back or if we give up on the bounty

Lets get this root

Who would hold the funds? Ensure that the full amount is going to the dev?

I'm of course willing to facilitate whatever it takes to get our G5s rooted. I can see how it might be hard to collect all the donations at the end from the various users. The main issue I see with collecting the funds beforehand is the separation of different carriers.

So let's say the T-Mobile G5 is rooted and gets functional TWRP, and that helps figure out the Sprint G5, but sadly none of the other ones seem to be doable.

Now I would have to go through the process of returning the funds to everyone who donated specifically for a carrier variant that was deemed unlikely to be possible to root for whatever reason. I would be willing to do this, as long as everyone understands the fees and time restrictions involved.

I don't use PayPal that often, but I have stellar/very good ebay/swappa feedback, and have been on XDA for 5+ years as a contributing participant. I am not clear on how much PayPal charges to return funds, or how long it takes. What does everyone think?

Is this a better way to go? Is this a trap for me, and everyone is gonna hate me for some unforeseen reason related to some PayPal problem I have never encountered yet?

Let me know what y'all think :good:

We need to get root!

BTW I would be very grateful if you would collect the funds. I am very willing to help manage it with you if you would like help in any way with it. We will need to PM everyone who already pledged and get them on the same page. I can gladly make that happen.

Nah everyone should be cool. We did this exact thing for the Sony z1s with a locked boot but @jcase saved the day for us then. As long as everyone understands that the fees will be deducted if they retract their portion of the bounty it should be okay. I believe PayPal fee is 3 percent but not sure.

I will do it if I need to but is rather someone else do it.

Bounties are not to be held in communal pots.

Think back on z1s more, it was a poo storm.

As someone who hasn't been keeping up to date with all the details I have a question. The current root method that was pulled from the forums that is not ready for public use, did that achieve root on all US variants? Or just Tmobile.

Regardless, I am willing to pledge $10 for the Verizon variant. Wish I could do more but I'm just a poor grad student!

Gotta agree with jcase here. Seems like there would be much more chance for a complete disaster. If some people dont honor their bounties, so be it. Not everyone is as honest as we would like.

Hey guys! Long time no see. I just got the G5 AT&T version. I had the G4 and it was great. I will love root access for the G5 as well so I can unblock the tethering restriction AT&T has for us with unlimited data; it's the only thing I seek to get out of rooting.

Now the pledge. I pledge $150 for "providing full step-by-step instructions for which anyone else can follow" for the AT&T variant. I don't need to say this but everyone knows I have always coughed up my share of the bounties. So you may see that the pledge high, but I really need the tethering hack and from what I understand it can only be done if I have root. BTW if anyone knows a working method to hack AT&T's tethering restriction without rooting, let me know and I'll be very grateful$.

Good luck guys!

Here I'm stealing from the above, i read the instructions. I've been a member for a long long time, and this is the first phone since my nexus 4 i've bought that didn't have root right out of the box, so in the interest of being a true XDA member i'm pledging to help move this along, If i have to directly send it to codefire, I will, but i'll follow through on this.
Here is the stealing part:

Now the pledge. I pledge $100 for "providing full step-by-step instructions for which anyone else can follow" for the T-mobile variant.
