As many out here my UK G7 never got any updates so after LG Bridge found an update but failed to install due to an error 0x5..... I decided to download G710EM20b_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0508.kdz and flash it via LGUP. It failed on 91% and after trying to flash another kdz and trying with another LGUP_Common.dll the phone rebooted and got stuck in Fastboot. Holding down Volume Up and plugging it in shows Download Mode for a fraction of a second and goes back to Fastboot. As per other theards suggested extracting laf.img from both Oreo and Pie kdz and then "fastboot boot laf.img" gives me a weird screen saying "Your device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot" and restarts to back to Fastboot. So is there anybody who knows how to bring back Download Mode so I can try flashing another kdz with LGUP considering the bootloader is locked?

*UPDATE*
SOLUTION - flashed ok with Medusa over Teamviewer, cost $30 and takes 1-2h depending on your PC setup, broadband speed, driver issues etc.

or

Go to your local highstreet phone shop and ask them if they do JTAG over Medusa or Octoplus, if they give you a weird look - just walk away.

Conclusion - you car brick it even LGUP accepted LGUP_Common.dll but you can't fix it yourself.

I had a nearly identical experience and fastboot boot laf.img worked to restore download mode. FWIW, I extracted laf from Pie kdz, I think G710AWM20a_00_OPEN_CA_OP_0523.kdz although I doubt that is what is causing your error.

He has a corrupted laf partition so it goes straight to fastboot.

But that would work perfect to get him into download mode.. Any laf img would work.

Already tried about 6 different laf files extracted from both Pie and Oreo kdz but every time I get that weird security message which reboots automatically after a minute or so.

When what you are doing doesn't work when it should, you have to consider possible reasons which is why I asked.
I've swapped computers before because of compatibility issues but that's not the case here. Obviously this particular firmware bricks many phones due to whatever reasons but I seriously doubt I'm the only person with that security error screen right now.

When you try to boot the laf img what does it say exactly??

Just to confirm you are doing:
fastboot boot laf.img
And not:
fastboot flash laf laf.img

I have both Intel and AMD systems however the suggestion to use an Intel PC was made because you would not be the first person to have issues on an AMD system. Yes, you may have loaded an incompatible kdz however it's likely you were using a bad version of LGUP or had the wrong dll. You are definitely not the only person who has had this issue including myself as I've mentioned.

I had issues with Odin on AMD but having LGUP fail at 91% as other makes me think we're doing the same thing wrong.

The ryzen (3900x) issues is due to people using cheap motherboards.. After i swapped to the aurorus extreme x570 board my usb issues for fastboot and adb went away.

But the error screen is normal when you brick, but nobody knowledgable has attempted to fix it.. Everybody ends up getting help from the octoplus guys to fix it.

Hi there, this post is kinda dead but I wanted to know how this problem was solved.
I'm having the exact same issue. Is there anyone with a MedusaBox that can help me getting stock?
Thanks
