Show me the way!
No info regarding thread, I think your in the wrong one. ?I made a research how difficult is flashing branded version LG from carrier. Finally I bought G8s thinQ from local UK stock. Phone is absolutely brilliant and I really love this device. It has the only one disadvantage. Screen resolution is FHD+ and it really hurts my eyes, when I compare with my old Pixel 2 XL I feel extremely disappointed. The difference is huge. When I firstly noticed blurred tiny fonts I thought that cl something must be broken. I was cleaning screen few times, but it didn't help so I was looking in settings how to setup full resolution or disable option which cause blurred text unsuccessfully. Pixel 2 XL has low quality screen but believe me I prefer poor WHQD screen then even the best FHD screen as I read a lot and I am use to scroll pdf documents. Currently all Korean V50 thinQ in low price are gone. I don't know what to do. I love this phone but hate screen in this phone. I will probably send it back although it's (proper) amazing phone. Please tell me honestly how much bloatware come with 'unlocked' G8 from US and how it affects daily usage?

Thanks to @CXZa for the partition DL enabling
I don't see @maxmotos mentioned at your website....

It happens. These things just like spread I guess.
Now LGUP v.1.16 is also at lgbbs.com.
But no money asked for it. Nice exception there...
Root has absolutely nothing to do with the hardware, it's strictly software. Root is nothing more than super user access to the system, same as the root user in Linux. Basically the guy has to hack the software so that it is wide open, and considering that someone else is doing the rooting in this case, it is also EXTREMELY dangerous security wise. Just a suggestion to all, never send your phone to someone to get root, nor allow remote access. Having root access done by someone else not only opens your device to be hacked and your information stolen, it also means they can take control of your device remotely.Agreed. I'm not interested in root where I have to ship my phone off somewhere or buy phone from someone.
The mint (unrooted) V35 I have (but not using) is because someone on XDA offered to sell me theirs -- so they could buy rooted V35 from China. A few weeks later, they updated me on their progress -- said the rooted phone they received from China not nearly great condition like the one they sold me.

Some low level bypass or something where you mess with the circuitry. It would negate the IP68 rating, taking it apart like that.
The lock you are referring to is the SIM lock, the unlock for that has to be provided by the carrier, it has nothing to do with bootloader unlock which is provided by LG or done by hacking the software.can this be used to unlocked a network locked AT&T model for use with other carriers? how much?
Hi everyone, I'm sorry I may have given you wrong information. After contract with this guy, now I know HE CANNOT ROOT ANY BOOTLOADER LOCKED DEVICE.
The fact is he can: 1. Unlock and root your device through open it. 2. Sell you an unlocked and rooted phone, which however has not been opened.
For point 2, how he can sell you a new bootloader unlocked phone, is because he just have some phone like that. As I know these phone are all from AT&T, and has an official app preinstalled on them, clicking the app and the phone unlocked, it's just like this. And that guy still have no idea to unlock any normal G8 at all. So, really sorry for my incorrect post.
So there's been no recent developments at all? I guess we just hope for an engineering bootloader leak but I have no idea how likely that is. Are you saying that at some point Chinese root method will be released? Also even if the engineering bootloader were leaked would there be a way to flash it with octoplus jtag or does that only work on sd845?now I dont have G8 for research - only can root LG G7 V35 V40 ThinQ SN845 with box support now, continue wait, china confirm will support root all mode LG G8

I'm sure the V50 community would have no issue in creating a bounty for whoever unlocks/roots the V50. I'd put money down now!
Eh maybe. Is the kernel version the same? Also magisk is not built to be installed this way so it can't work 100%an approach to investigate?

Make a backup and try it. Maybe it will workEh maybe. Is the kernel version the same? Also magisk is not built to be installed this way so it can't work 100%
Turn off auto update so it doesn't patch it. It was patched in October security patch apparently but that hasn't reached our devices yet
I can confirm this as I saw his moment about the rooted V50. Teardown is required to root V50 and he can change the RAM to 12G and the storage to 1TB, quite crazy!
Dude none of us want to send our phone to some guy in China we are just discussing how he does it as it is most definitely real. The answer is he mods the soc to work with xiaomi firehose and nullifies laf. We've just been doing some research because we're keen on root, and you don't have to participate if you don't want toAre you the OP? The guy who started this is who I am talking about. This is an absolutely ludicrous idea. Send my phone to some guy in China with no proof? Even if he does root it who's to say it hasn't been modified in some malicious way? You say I have no idea what I'm talking about? This whole endeavour is sketchy as heck and you've done nothing to convince me otherwise.
Please report back when/if you receive the phone.Someone in China make all G8, G8s, V50 rooted yesterday, without breaking the phone. Sorry for I don't know how it works.
The guy is the moderator of a forum in China, which is about LG phones since years ago. In the past he always help to unlock, root and make ROMs for LG phones, but now this guy count on this to make money and just sell phones he polished, refusing to tell how.
Anyway, I'm going to buy his phone now, G8 is quite a good phone, I really hope a guide to root can be made soon.
