From the research I have been doing, it seems I need to put the phone in Fastboot mode before I can push a backed up image to it.
This phone doesn't have fastboot. You need to have some patience. Keep trying and trying and trying. It can be frustrating but eventually you'll get into recovery.
I have never had a problem before getting into recovery using the keys.
On a side note, ADB does not detect the device, any suggestions on what to do?
Edit:- the LG Support Tool recognizes the device, but ADB does not. That seems a bit strange :\
Does anyone know if Erikmm / Beastmode was able to get Slimbean working for our device?
I have been reading through this thread & have found some early testing going on, but cant find whether it was successful or not.
Well, maucat has a working Slimbean.

i have a t-mobile mytouch e739 and i cant seem to get it to boot up....i factory data reset it cause i was going to give it to my niece but for some reason it ended up with the S/W Upgrade thing when i tried to go into the recovery mode and i connected it to my PC to try to "upgrade it" as many people pointed out i used LG Mobile Support Tool but with no luck it said the phone was already up to date....so i'm stuck and oh yeah the phone is/was rooted running cm9 so please help and sorry if i posted this question in the wrong place
Download Unlock Root (Google it if you don't know what it is)
1、Your device must be in USB Debugging mode. To turn it on, go to Settings > Applications > Development and check the box.(Look Here)
2、Connect your device to your PC, Run UnlockRoot.exe,
3、Click “Unlock Root”, Enjoy!
