I don't see the IOT (CDG2) menu when i open the hidden menu on my H918. Does this apply to T-Mob?

No.. this is for the SPRINT CDMA model to make it work with GSM carriers like AT&T or T-Mobile.

You will have to have T-Mobile unlock your device through the device unlock app on your phone. There's no way around that.

First of all credits go with many thanks to @hyelton for the instructions and original post for LG G5!

Now short instructions on how to switch your LG V20 from CDMA to LTE network and configure your 3d party SIM APN settings:
1. Download attached HiddenMenuCall app and install it on your device.
2. Start the application and scroll down to IOT(CDG2) row and press it.
3. Next scroll to LTE settings and press it.
4. Select afterwards Operation Mode and change it from Production to Lab Network
-------
After that the phone will reboot.
-------
5. After reboot start HiddenMenuCall again and scroll down to IOT(CDG2) row and press it.
6. Next scroll to LTE settings and press it.
7. Now select APN Settings and press it.
8. From the upper right corner press 3 dotted menu and select New APN.
9. Configure your APN (refer to Biggest APN list) and press SAVE again in the 3 dot context menu.

That's all you'll now have a LTE/GSM enabled device
Hope I don't sound like a noob, but what exactly will this do? Will it boost your signal, more bars, etc. I was curious of this modification.

Thanks!
Paul

That's because the US996 is not a Sprint model.

And the US996 should already be unlocked.

I had it working the other night. I have a customer who wants tp purchase the phone so I did a factory data reset to verify it would stiill be good after. I reset the phone and now I reinstalled the app, as with last time, I set the phone into lab mode, then went to the LTE submenu, selecting apn and add new, but there is no APN there, and when I select "add new" it does not add one.

Help me get re-aligned real quick?

If you have the US996 you should be able to add the APN the normal way of adding one in the settings menu.

If your just quoting a random post and have the Sprint LS996 then under the LTE submenu you select add apn, then enter your APN settings and save it.

Questions:

1) What LTE bands are available on the LS997 after unlocking with this method? The published specs I have seen do not include band 17, which I believe is one of the major LTE bands for AT&T. If that band is not available then it seems like this phone might have limited LTE on AT&T. In the bright side, it looks like all the T-Mobile bands are supported.

2) Are there any advantages/disadvantages of using this method instead of asking Sprint to unlock the phone? (assuming the phone is eligible for unlock)

Thanks in advance for any info.

The bands that the phone supports is available via this method. Nothing less and nothing more.

Usually sprint only internationally unlocks the device.

According to this table, LTE band 17 is a subset of band 12:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_frequency_bands

This discussion has some more detail, and says that AT&T now supports band 12:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/40eodh/band_12_vs_band_17/

This lead me to think that the LS997 may work well on T-Mobile or AT&T. Can confirm or deny this?

And one more question:
Could LG disable this unlock method in future software updates? If yes, then anyone who is using this method should be careful about accepting software updates.

The LS997 works perfectly on T-Mobile. With T-Mobile sharing most of the same frequencies that AT&T does I'm sure it would work well there too, although I don't VoLTE would work like it does on T-Mobile.
