According to this table, LTE band 17 is a subset of band 12:
Could LG disable this unlock method in future software updates? If yes, then anyone who is using this method should be careful about accepting software updates.
It appears that the answer is yes, this unlock method could be disabled by future software updates. I just read through the G5 thread linked in the first post of this thread, and found this comment from @hyelton

"No one will know till it happens. It won't be patched with the G5. But still can happen with the V20. It got patched on the G6."

Full post is here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72662359&postcount=201

So, if you are using this method and want to play it safe, you might want to disable software updates. That should be possible by disabling the correct package(s) using a tool like these.

anyone know why the hiddencall app won't install because the "package appears to be corrupt" ?? I have a Sprint G6 that's UICC unlocked, but it doesn't see the Tmobile SIM. Thought this would solve it, but I can't install the app to save my life, and I've downloaded it direct to the phone, to the pc, to dropbox and then to the phone. No dice. Same error.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you device has been updated you can only unlock via a paid remote unlock service. App won't work with the G6 once updated as posted above your post.

Even though the UICC unlock says it's unlocked and sprint says it's unlocked for domestic and international use?

I can't comment on that on UICC unlock as I've never seen it work domestically at all.

But this method was patched via an update for the G6. And normally only method is remote unlock.

You do have you network setting set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE correct? If is still set on the default CDMA/LTE it won't work.

I have it set on automatic as there is only GSM/WCDMA. No LTE option with GSM. Talking to the sprint tech guy now.

It's just so laughable how the new law says they must allow phones to be unlocked, but they made no provision for them to have to make the phone actually useful outside of their service. They hide options, bands and so forth to make them only slightly usable if at all. And the idea they would patch something that goes against the purpose of having to unlock a phone you actually own. It's all a joke really. And one of the reasons I parted out our sprint account and play in Tmo's and Sprint's camp with about 15 lines or so.

But if this is such a pain in the ass to legitimately use a phone elsewhere, I'm just canceling my additional sprint line. I'll wait for a Tmo deal to take advantage of and just sell the G6. Shame. Would've been nice to try out, and with digitz, who needs wifi calling?

Remember that unlock thing doesn't apply with Sprint. Sprint is a CDMA provider. And if it wasn't for LTE / device having LTE it wouldn't even be physically possible to use it with another carrier other than Verizon as an example.

What happens if you set it to gsm/wcdma?

Did you go to settings, active device (or something simuler its towards the bottom and select UICC unlock? I think that will only work if you have your old sprint sim in the device. It might work if connected to wifi i don't know.

I do know sprint is CDMA like Verizon. Not my first rodeo here... Haha.

I called sprint, had them unlock it in their system. Them I went to the uicc unlock on the phone and it said it was unlocked and could be used anywhere. Then I put the Tmo sim in and restarted the phone. Got the no sim message. Networks is grayed out. No access to anything network related. Put the sprint sim back in. Chose the GSM/umts option. Put Tmo sim in and nothing. Tried to add a Tmo apn but it wouldn't let me save it.

I'm out no money. Can sell it for over $300 and put it towards a nice set of Def Tech Mythos STS speakers for my theater room and call it a day... Haha.

Am going to hard reset the phone first with the Tmo sim in when I get home tonight and don't need my phone for a few. If that doesn't work, then I'm doing the above.

Sell it and buy an unlocked AT&T one or T-Mobile on :D I had a Sprint G5 as a spare line on T-Mobile. Sold it due to many software issues I had with it. still been thinking about buying another but this time a GSM version.

My G5 was also "unlocked" but would only work with international sims. Same goes for my sprint moto E 2nd gen unlocked but only works with international sims

Well I have my Note 4 for backup and a moto Z Play on my Tmo line. Tmo pissed me off because they don't certify the Z Play for wifi calling. BS when the G4 Plus has it as does the G5. Doesn't really matter if you go the digitz route, but why should I have to use another app do do something that should be built in?

So having a new flagship would be nice, but isn't necessary. And besides, my slide out keyboard for the Z play is coming in a couple months so I can geek out old school and be productive with office apps and such again.

I'll hold out for the Note 8.

Update if it helps anyone. I enabled developer options and turned on OEM unlock. Restarted the phone and it was still working on Tmo after. Seems like that did the trick. Reset the phone to do a restore since I can't get LG switch to work via sd card and wireless said it'll take like 2 days... Haha. Will go through the same steps and then restore and keep my fingers crossed.

Did you make sure the network setting is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE?

Try setting it to GSM/WCDMA? And see if calls work or service works?

Don't want to offend anyone who may work at a phone store but about 95% of all carrier stores in the US wouldn't even know what the settings even do lol. I will say the people over at my local MetroPCS store know there stuff though.
