you can't update using OTA updates.

See Section 9 of the WTF Instructions. It explains how to update and has links to the firmware. You really need to read ALL the instructions. So I have managed to successfully flash twrp and root my device.Do I upgrade to the latest Oreo/pie version via twrp flashables or the software update given by lg?.Also if I do use the twrp flashables do I need to disable root checker and the other stuff that I had done during twrp installation

I got H932 with TWRP and Oreo installed, but this phone is locked to T-Mobile for me to unlock I have to put the phone in download mode, since there is TWRP installed how can I get back to download mode without messing things up? Because when I try to go into download mode it takes me back to TWRP.
You can unlock H932 using this method without any issues see this videoYou didn't use this WTF method with T-Mobile H932! Otherwise you would have a bricked phone. T-Mobile H932 can NOT be flashed to any other firmware, except for other T-Mobile H932.
To install TWRP, you probably used the T-Mobile H932 laf exploit, found here. Go to that thread and ask, because they are the T-Mobile H932 users.
To carrier unlock T-mobile H932, you will need to use T-mobile's app which uses their servers. If that doesn't work there are some tricks... Some people have been able to downgrade to Nougat, spoof another T-Mobile phone and carrier unlock that way.
found any way to root this device ???and if you did please help!!!I have Single sim LG V30+ L-01K NTT Docomo variant. Can I flash my phone with global rom? If yes, which rom should I go for?
Thanks.
I replied to you about this in the H932 root thread. You can unlock H932 using this method without any issues see this video
for that method to work I have to have download mode, since I followed your WTF V30 H932 guide I was able to root my phone, but I found that method later on that why I was asking to get the download mode back. Is there any way to get back the download mode without messing anything up? Since it's replaced with TWRP.
This method may help people with error in cmd of "too many links" or " data transfer"
Download this file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v7y9e8JsLPHz7pQ3PZJaxFi4QaZj0Wf6/view?usp=sharing
Now right click on the ‘Usb3fix.bat‘ file and click on ‘Run as administrator‘ and then reboot.

Background: Both my new laptops only had usb 3.0 ports and wouldn't flash twrp despite all troubleshooting steps mentioned here several times.
So I had to use my old laptop every time I wanted to flash twrp (no issues on that laptop with the steps given). But I gave it to a relative which left me in a bind.
i tried this method and it worked on my new laptop and worked without a problem.
NOTE: try this at your own risk. I can't guarantee the safety as this file is not by me but by the site given as source. No issues for me so far with my laptop after using this file. I'll report in case I've any issues.
@ChazzMatt this might be an option for people as a last resort in case nothing else works.
Hi, I'm in Australia with a Australian version of the LG V30 Plus. I'm trying to complete this procedure but every time if fails with Error!! Wrong Bootloader Unlock key: 3006. I have tried various version of ADB and everything that is suggested. Am I just out of luck? Do we have some crazed Aussie version of the phone. Help is appreciated
Regards
Ah, I thought this process included that, miss read it. Will do that first and try againThis guide works for every V30/V30+/V30S except for T-Mobile H932. Many Australian H930DS have used it. In fact, at one time an XDA Moderator had a rooted Australian H930DS. He, of course, used this guide.
"Wrong bootloader unlock key" suggests perhaps you haven't temporarily downgraded to the proper firmware needed for this bootloader unlock exploit. What firmware are you on?
You've read Section 9, the Troubleshooting Tips?

From PM. I don't read PMs often. Mostly I just don't see them for some reason. So, the best way to reach me is to post in a relevant thread. I check new forum posts at least every other day. With two new adopted children, I don't have as much free time.
But when I do read PMs, I like to reply publicly so the answers can help others. This seemed the best place to post the answer.
This answer is specific to North American V30 models (EXCEPT for T-Mobile H932).

Answer:
You will need to re-lock the bootloader on full stock firmware, which has fastboot flash commands (US998).
Then you will need to flash back to Verizon firmware.
So, we will just reverse the steps you used in these WTF Instructions.
1) You will flash any Oreo US998 or Nougat US998 KDZ in Partition DL mode. You ONLY have a choice of this because you have Verizon VS996. Any other North American variant which can flash US998 firmware (NOT T-mobile H932!) would HAVE to use Nougat US998 for this step. (Like Frankenstein.) But VS996 is very compatible with US998.
Do NOT use Pie US998 KDZ. It's too wonky and we are just going to US998 TEMPORARILY to relock the bootloader. Use any Oreo or Nougat US998 KDZ. Doesn't matter which one. This step is only to get fastboot flash commands.
We are using KDZ, NOT TWRP flashable zip, because you need FULL stock firmware. NEVER try to relock bootloader unless you are back on full stock firmware with full stock recovery. TWRP is "custom recovery" and you need to get rid of that.
2) After successfully flashing US998 KDZ, then run these commands:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot
Your bootloader is now relocked.
3) Now we need to get you back to stock Verizon firmware.
Using Dev Patched LGUP, flash your choice of VS996 KDZ firmware in Partition DL mode. Can be VS996 30C (Pie) KDZ if you wish.
You ONLY have a choice of this because you have Verizon VS996. Any other North American variant coming from US998 would HAVE to use their carrier's Nougat first, Master Reset, then go to Oreo or Pie. Like Frankenstein. But VS996 is very compatible with US998.
Yay, all good, amazing what can happen when properly reading all stepsYes, see the Prep Section 3, point #5. Also read in a web browser, not an app.
quick question. its been a while but LGUP recognizes the phone when connected but when in download mode it doesn't at all. can you clarify what i need to do to get that to work. read all over your instructions and #193 post but still can't get it to detect?? help
It's a communication issue between LGUP and the phone.
If you are using the Dual Mode version, make sure you are using the "Dev" mode and not the regular user mode. Pretty sure you are, but just wanted to mention that.
- Sometimes changing to different USB port help.
- Also reinstalling drivers, rebooting the computer.
- Sometimes changing to different version of Dev Patched LGUP helps. But if you are already on stock Pie then you need the version (called dual mode) that works with stock Pie. However there is an older Dev Patched LGUP version we used for Oreo that the T-Mobile H932 users still need for one step in their rooting process; the newer "Pie" (dual mode) version doesn't work for that step.

He created a separate thread for Korean variants to help others.
I've been running it over a full day now, debloated and tweaked a bit. RCS and VoLTE is working after ##72786# and a PRL and profile update. Thanks again!
Sent from my LG-LS998
Due to the July 2018 LG security patch blocking the WTF bootloader unlock exploit, I've added instructions in post #1 of US998, H930 and India H930DS Oreo KDZ threads to use dev patched LGUP to downgrade to earlier versions of KDZ in order to use this WTF bootloader unlock exploit. You can always update to newer firmware AFTER bootloader unlock.
I've also updated the instructions in this thread to include references to the July 2018 security patch situation.
Your the man! Followed your exact steps. It worked. I now have twrp and unlocked bootloader on my ls998(converted to us998). Thanks for this
I actually don't see an LG G4 unlock.bin in that thread. I see someone asking for one. Somebody supplied one from an M8, but I don't see one from an LG G4. OR if they did, they edited off, back in 2015. So, where did you find it? Which post?so, i search on google lg unlock.bin
i found lg g4 unlock.bin in this link https://xdaforums.com/g4/general/unlock-bin-t3158596
Wait. You flashed an Huawei M8 unlock.bin code onto an AT&T LG V30 H931 and UNLOCKED the bootloader? After of course crossflashing H930 Oreo KDZ and basically bricking your phone.
The only reason I halfway believe this is because the guy with the rooted H932 in China is running Galaxy 8 TWRP with parts of H930 flashed over the phone.
And because you were one of the first to crossflash your phone in this forum. So, you know what you are doing.
___________
So, how does your phone identify now in About Phone? H930 or H931? Or Canadian H933 (which you had cross flashed to earlier.)
In LGUP, in download mode, how does it identify? Even after I flashed US998 over LS998 (Frankenstein thread), in download mode with LGUP, the phone still showed as LS-998.
