Steps to ADB sideload:
1. get adb drivers - google "set up adb for -your operating system-"
2. enable developer options on your watch by pressing version number until it says "you are now a developer" - I think it's 10 times
3. place your watch in the cradle and connect it to your computer or laptop
4. go to developer options and enable "adb debugging" - accept and prompt that might pop up
5. download the OTA package posted by AndiTails and thank him while you're at it
6. rename the file you downloaded to "update"
7. copy the "update" file into the "platform tools" folder - it will be there if you done the 1st step correctly
8. in the platform tools folder hold shift and right click to select open "command window here"
9. type command "adb devices" - accept any prompt on your watch
10. type command "adb reboot bootloader" - your watch should boot to bootloader
11. using the little arrows on the bottom of the watch screen navigate to "recovery mode" and press the crown to select it - after a second a dead android figure will appear - then just press on it and another screen with various options will open
Hi, thanks for these instructions. I have successfully done everything up until step 11. However, at this point I get stuck. Tapping on the open android does nothing. I can't get past this screen. The only thing I can do at this point is hold the crown until the watch reboots. Am I doing something wrong? I can't see any options or anything special after I get into recovery mode.

So if I understood you correctly the dead android icon appears but if you press on it nothing happens? If you are able to enter the recovery mode as you say, you have already passed the dead android icon. In the recovery screen you should see options like "reboot system now" and so on.. If you see those options, you can swipe downwards to the "apply update from adb" and then press the crown to select

Sorry, probably wasn't clear enough. I can reboot into the bootloader and see "start, power off, recovery mode, restart bootloader" etc. I can get to that point. I select "recovery mode" with the little arrows, then hit the circle to confirm, and the watch reboots and I see the dead android. It is at this point which I can do nothing. Tapping, swiping, etc don't change anything. The watch just sits at this screen forever: https://i.imgur.com/shXFBZf.jpg

The only way to escape that screen that I have found is to hold the crown down for 6-8 seconds. The watch vibrates for a long time, then reboots.

Hmm, afraid I can't help you in that case unfortunately.. You could just wait for the update to hit your watch, should be 2 weeks max. Sorry man..

Ah well, that's okay. Thanks anyway.
I unlocked my bootloader while I was messing around with this, will that prevent an OTA? Is there a way to re-lock it? What are the benefits/drawbacks of having an unlocked bootloader?

No, an unlocked bootloader won't affect receiving the OTA.
But you must have a stock system and boot partition. If these are altered (custom ROM / rooted and a custom kernel) then the OTA will fail. But if you're stock, it'll be fine.

Only advantage is that you can flash images without having to unlock it first.. So nothing major ;)

I think it might, but am not sure. You can lock it just in case, just "fastboot oem lock" in cmd- I think it will reset your watch. I wouldn't say it has drawbacks or benefits. People usually unlock bootloaders to root/modify kernel. stuff like that

Only unlocking will wipe the /data partition, and therefore reset the watch.
You can lock with no ill effects - assuming all partitions are stock.

Edit, Update: You do not have to wipe while/after locking the bootloader. I just locked it and rebooted back into all of my apps and settings.

Okay, cool. Thanks guys; I don't really intend to install anything crazy on it and I just wiped it anyway to unlock the bootloader, so I think I'll just lock it again *shrug*

i think there is an easiest way to update than adb, go to "About" and chose update system, it'll download the rom, haven't tried yet but should work i guess

That's the easiest way for those willing to wait. I got the bug and learned a few things. It was stock until yesterday. After a few trial and errors, and little reading, now running 6.0.1 w/ TWRP 3.0 using WinDroid to get me started then mostly adb. Coolest thing I learned was to swipe from top left to bottom right after LG logo when starting up gets you to bootloader, thats when it all clicked for me. Now that I feel I know what I'm doing on this thing, I'm waiting for new LeeDroid to play with

yes sure adb methods certainly work. I just finish the update using the "update button" method, work like a charm, took 10mins

That's not how Google rolls out updates.
Generally, if you are selected to receive the update - you will get a notification. It checks in a couple of times a day - so if you haven't got it yet and you keep mashing that update button - it won't help.

A Google engineer explained it all really well here:
http://www.androidauthority.com/how-android-updates-roll-out-force-clear-gcf-318744/

Which is why we sideload via adb and jump the queue ;)
