Hey guys i have a galaxy s8 brand new and I have light bleeding front the top of the iris scanner and front camera bezel.
After comparing it with several note 8 phones and galaxy s8's i found most phones had this issue but a few of them didnt have it either.

Was wondering if this is normal or not?

It appears on the top right of the phone where the iris scanner and front camera are located.

Please maximize your brightness to full and on a white background check for the same

Same issue Tmobile version

I'm joining the club gents...But I'm in the situation, that just doesn't allow me to exchange it easy. I was stupid enough to get it from Samsung direct, on top of that I've sent my trade in workhorse S7 to them already.
Now, in order to get new one, I have to send this one back and wait from 15 to 30 days to get a promo code with my trade in value...15 to 30 days guys...This is just ridicules. So, I'm knocking in every Samsung door as possible, to get me replacement, before I send defective back.
I'm 100% positive it is a defect: I might eat that bul$&%>t about light reflection on the sides, but mine bleeds from the front camera as well, where edge is not so curved. I tend to believe that is the adhesive tape issue, it is probably misplaced. My unit bleeds from the right side more noticeable though.
Also, I think they were stamping these phones fast trying to cover US carriers demand, my cousin's husband has an international version(purchased in Israel), no issues there.
So, if Samsung higher level customer service are not going to come up with the solution for me, I would just live with it...Hopefully it is not affecting the ip68.
It just funny how surprised customer service are, and they have never heard such a thing...

I am in the same exact situation and Samsung online shop has the worst customer support I have ever experienced.

In the past 3 weeks I spent hours calling them, calls were disconnected after being put on hold for 30+ mins then emailed them but no response or emails were bouncing back!

Finally managed to speak with a manager and they agreed to have a replacement unit sent out first but then they have changed their mind.

In summary it will take 2+ weeks to replace the faulty unit which is completely unacceptable.

ADVISE: stay far as complete waste of time or assume no customer service.

I am now looking for Samsung CEO email address...

Lmao these immature kiddies pretending there's ain't got the light bleed issue ?

I think it's absolutely hilarious all the people in here trying to pretend as if their Galaxy Note 8 is perfect, and doesn't have the light bleed effect around the outer edges of the bezel like everyone else!!!!

Every single solitary Galaxy Note 8 manufactured has this very same light bleeding effect to some small degree as there's not a single Note 8 which doesn't have this issue as they all have it to some small degree, and so perhaps these guys on here aren't all lying, and so I can only presume they just aren't sure what too look for as it's not always easily visible as I've had to show numerous people 10 to 20 times before they finally saw what it was I trying to show them lol

Point of my message being don't drive yourself crazy with OCD trying to hassle with exchanges, and returns because all Galaxy Note 8 devices are the same as they'll all display the light bleed effect to some degree, and none of them actually bleed into the display itself as it's always limited to the outer edges of the bezel, and so do yourself a huge favor just enjoy this amazing device, and don't let this minor issue ruin it for ya as if you do an exchange, and or return you're gonna have the exact same issue all over again although it could be slightly better, and or potentially slightly worse than your original, and so like I said guys just enjoy your phones, and as tough as it is just ignore it as I know that's easier said than done as I myself have the light bleed effect pretty bad on mine, and at first it was like oh no not again just like the Note 7 but then I just accepted the fact every single curved oled Samsung display is gonna have this issue to some small degree as it's the same with all the s6,s7,s8 edge models, and s8+, and of course Note 7, and Note 8 models as it's not a defect but more so a design limitation where its just not as refined yet as these are highly complex displays as there's just not a refined design yet which permits the restriction of the light bleed effect for edge lit galaxy smartphones, and by edge lit I don't mean LCD edge lit lol I just mean oled edge lit as oled panels still have light guys ok they don't have an LCD backlight but the organic light emitting diodes still have light lol it is what it is

I keep forgetting about this issue, until I get notifications from this thread. I have the issue, but have my phone in a case and don't notice it.

My larger concern is that my wife's phone already has screen burn in issues after only a few months. I know that burn in is in the nature of AMOLED, but I'd expect it to last longer than three months.

I've found a pretty simply solution to this issue. Get yourself some of the glue that's included in the Dome Glass screen protectors. I know they sell similar stuff on amazon, it's UV glue or something, I'd make sure ppl talk about using it to glue on smartphone screens. Since the stuff has a really low surface tension, it sucks itself into any tiny crevices, which include the tiny concave space between the frame and the screen. This stuff blocks the light from leaking, and it's just more glue, which they used to glue the screen on in the first place.

You can use the UV light on it to cure it, or just leave it. since it's such a small amount exposed to the air it it will dry on it's own. The thing I used to hold the glue was super stuck to something the next day and I didn't use the UV light on that, so the stuff does air dry.

I noticed this when I put on my dome glass screen protector and the part where the glue spilled over had no light leaking anymore. Even though I had cleaned and wiped the glue off, it had set itself into the micro gap and settled there blocking light.

So is this actually light escaping from a separation or just a reflection off the metal frame?

In a pitch black room all I see are reflections off the metal, it looks just like OP's pictures. There's no gaps or anything, and it doesn't even make sense as the panel isn't even backlit.

Wow, 26 pages of glass, light, and physics.... it isn't a flaw, or defect, its glass. Inherent properties of glass. Lasers through lenses do the same thing, the edges glow. Glass isn't 100% transparent ya know. This happens on mostly all phones, or any other device with a screen, just flat screen devices have a bezel hiding the edge of the glass, on the 8, it's curved glass, around onto...guess what...a mirror! that highly polished metal bezel that's edge points directly back at you.

when normies come into the tech world and try to tell geniuses that their devices arent flawed cause the trendy i-hipster curved glass designed to make the product break faster also has other flaws. xD MAn we need to have a 110iq limit set for internet usage. FIrst the bitcoin buttbois take our gfx cards (and bitcoin i-nerds need their skulls smashed to tomato paste for it) and now i-nerds telling us to wbuy whatever junk we are sold cause tv told them so.
