First, iOS updates seems like a nightmare to me as they are famous, or infamous about their bugs and batterygate. Well I am not an apple user though, so not sure if they have improved.
Second, will you like to try out the EOL android 10 test build by html6405? Maybe that will be better for you.
Last but not least, does Google removed that feature in android 12?
Have you used the Android 10 test build? If so, what bugs does it have?
Since it's EOL (won't be getting updates), knowing what bugs it has would be useful to determine whether I can live with them or not.
I have sh!t internet (only 3 mbps and it's not that reliable), so every time I have to wipe and reinstall apps, sync accounts, etc. is a huge pain.
Also I'm an iOS user, but I haven't been one for as near as long as I have been an Android user. I remember back in Android 4.4 Google started messing with the storage permissions on Android. Many apps lost their ability to write to wherever we wanted, at least until they got updated for Storage Access Framework... but that's if they even got an update. IOS has been pretty smooth on my 2016 iPhone SE. Even still to this day, it gets good updates... my Razer Phone is my newest device but it no longer gets updates (perhaps I wouldn't mind an official Android 10 update, if it would come without scoped storage).
My favorite versions of Android (and the reasons why I liked them):
Android 4.4 KitKat:
- This was the transition period between Dalvik and the new runtime (which meant you could switch to the new runtime on some ROMs and still run old apps that used the old runtime).
- Lockscreen widgets. Easy to control my music player, and access other info I wanted.
- Introduced customizable quick controls in the notification panel
- Most polished version of Holo UI (which imho is the best Android theme, simple and dark mode as first priority).
- Could move apps to SD card on many devices easily.
- Highly performant. It was optimized to run on 512 MB of RAM.
Android 6 Marshmallow:
- Cyanogenmod 13 had a good theme engine, and I could make themes for it with a special app.
- Multiwindow support was introduced.
- Android 6 lacked SELinux (Viper Audio worked perfectly without any issues, SCR Pro screen recorder could record internal audio from any game, which would make for higher quality videos.) - I am not dumb, I don't download a bunch of malware or spyware (looking at you, Facebook!)... so I don't need extra security restrictions.
