My system is unstable... Do you think it might be due to the gapps that I installed ? Mine is nikgapps NikGapps-core-arm64-12.1-20220908-signed.zip

Edit: I tried with BitGapps and that was better. However, still crashes. I have nextly gone back to the stock samsung rom, and I encountered crashes too. My conclusion is that my phone has hardware problem, so I will replace it and try later. Sorry for bothering 😅

Unfortunately I confirm I have phone echo issues with this Rom since I installed it (fews months ago), and with every following update.

The echo is not on my side, my caller can hear it's own echo on his side. Seems like my mic is recording sound from my speaker (at low level but still)

Is there mixer_path tweaks to try, or something else to flash ?
Or is it possible to check another Rom mixer path file ?

I'm having this same issue. It seems that apps that don't rely on some form of phone call service/voIP (like the Google Recorder app) work just fine with the microphone. I can't hear anything that seems out of the blue, only the fact that the microphone (at least from what it seems) records audio a lot quieter than it use too.

The quiet microphone sensitivity seems to also carry over to the VoIP / Regular Calling apps as well. The Interlocutor can hear their voice briefly for a small amount of time shortly after they speak.

I think the reason why this happens is because the S7 has 2 microphones on the top and bottom. I noticed that the top microphone (at least from my findings with settings pages, and different apps) cannot be configured for use. The default microphone the phone uses is the one at the bottom, located close to the speaker.

I tried looking around many places (including XDA) in different places from Magisk Modules to Lineage updates, but it appears that this is a known issue with very minimal knowledge as to what is causing it for some people.

I hope this gives insight to anyone actively investigating the issue, though I do admit it's pretty surface level observations.

Thanks to everyone for making this possible, especially Ivan Meler.

(I'm using the Canadian G930W8 variant of the S7 in case anyone was wondering)

Edit: I forgot to mention that I tried installing different Microphone mixer_path patches, alongside having AML (Audio Modification Library) installed, but it seemed to not resolve anything. I will likely continue my own digging with this as I'm not too accustomed to what it fully does yet.

Hi Forum,

first of all a Happy New Year to all of you! 🌻

Many thanks to @Ivan_Meler for your tireless good work and efforts!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

May I ask, whether the usage of SD-Cards works now in LOS 20? (Sorry, have asked that in the wrong forum!)

✌🏼🙋🏻‍♂️🙂🖖🏼

I'm having problems with front camera.
It works fine with camera app installed from twrp. But front camera crashes with any other app from app store.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

Hmm just applied the latest lineage-19.1-20230105-UNOFFICIAL-herolte and my trusty S7 is now bootlooping - downgrading it back to lineage-19.1-20221206-UNOFFICIAL-herolte has surprisingly not fixed it either and the phone still bootloops.

I'm on the fixed version of twrp-3.7.0_9-0 and to upgrade I did the usual reboot to recovery, wipe caches, sideload lineageos + Magisk 25.2, reboot so exactly what I always do. Anyone else seeing this or have any ideas?

Disregard that, I belatedly realised I forgot to reflash NikGapps with the ROM update... which I have a funny feeling I did last time as well. Whoops 😂. I had to rebuild the phone last time as well which I'm definitely going to have to do again now.

This does seem to bring up a weird issue though - if like me you use NikGapps and forget to reflash it during a normal ROM update you're out of luck. Reflashing properly with NikGapps again will resurrect the phone ok but the Google Play Services are then permanently kneecapped: the playstore app is forced into "you're offline" mode and Signal etc immediately die as their playstore integration is cut off. There doesn't seem to be anyway to recover from that without rebuilding which is... unfortunate.

Don't get me wrong, this is entirely my fault for forgetting to flash NikGapps but this seems a little odd. Anyone else run into this or am I literally the only person who's ever forget to reflash the Gapps package during an upgrade? I know I've accidentally forgotten to flash OpenGapps during a S7 lineageos upgrade before without this happening.

Normally nikgapps should Backup your gapps and restore it after every Update. Dont know what did go wrong in your case

Thank you for providing this ROM!

In case someone wants to use it in combination with Family Link, I did get that working only with MindTheGapps almost out of the box, whereas several other GApps distributions got stuck.

The only problem with the MindTheGapps version I used was this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/missing-options-in-recovery.4256195/page-2, where there is also info on how to fix it (you need to make a small change to a file inside the MindTheGapps zip before loading it).

Am I correct in assuming that this OS does not support exFAT on SD cards? I just installed it on my S7 as a test and the inserted SD card with lots of files is recognized, but it isn't readable.

Well, easiest would be to solve that, that you copy all that files from the SD card onto your PCs (or Notebooks) harddisk, then format the SD card inside the Samsung Galaxy S7 as removable, and when this works, then you copy back the files from your PC/Notebook back onto the SD card.

Okay, it's clear that it will work this way. So Lineage 19.1 no longer supports exFAT? Because Lineage 17.1 still supported it. As well as NTFS. Although there were also some problems and bugs with exFAT.

With which file system does lineage format the SD card? ext4? Then it would no longer be readable on the PC. It would be important to take a file system that is readable and writable with lineage as well as with the PC!

Well... when I format an SDcard inside the S7 as removable (NOT as internal), then this SDcard is also readable on my PC too.

But: I am a Linux user, and honestly never worried about, what file system does that SDcard have. Linux reads and writes nearly everything.

I have a second PC running Windows 10, so I will test that on it and give you a reply.

Maybe someone here in the forum knows more about that, but normally an SDcard formatted in the S7 as removable should also be readable/writetable in Windows.

Addendum:
Just have testet that issue with a freshly mobile (removable) formatted SDcard, I had formatted inside the S7. The OS on that S7 is LineageOS 19.1.

Windows 10 reads and writes it properly. The S7 with LOS 19.1 formats the SDcard as exfat.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you very much for the test! But it leaves me a bit perplexed. The sd-card that lineage 19.1 cannot read is read in TWRP with no problems and was also read with no problems on lineage 17.1 and on Windows. And it is formatted exFAT. So obviously there are technical differences between exFAT formatted with lineage 19.1 and exFAT formatted with other systems.

Okay, it's been a while but I've come back with an update on the whole microphone issue, and the echo problem.

Just a disclaimer that I have switched from this rom to FloydQ, so there is a chance that any suggestions I make may or may not work for you.

I wanted to share regardless, because no matter what ROM I switched to, this was an issue. I hope that this may assist certain people because it appears that only a select amount of people can fix the issue, or even have it at all.

So it all began with finding an older S5 of mine. I have a habit with turning on the battery saver the quickest chance I get, that includes after I install it for the first time. (we're all aware that older batteries that these phones house are not the best nowadays)

I installed a newer version of lineage on the S5. I noticed the minute I toggled the battery saver on that, it performed a ton worse. The whole reason I wanted to use it was because I wanted to see if it had the same issue as my current S7.

When I turned off the phone with the battery saver on, my friend said that he heard his voice for a split second. The echo issue persisted. With this information in mind, I decided to call myself using the S5 and my daily driver S7 to see if I could figure out what the cause was.

I noticed that switching on the battery saver and off gave different results:

Battery Saver ON: The interlocutor can hear themselves if the application is not focused. This only occurs SOMETIMES while the application is focused. Any sounds that emit from the phone like notification sounds, etc. will go through to the interlocutors end.

Battery Saver OFF: The interlocutor cannot hear themselves regardless if the screen is off, or the application is not currently focused. Sounds that emit from the phone such as notifications, system sounds, etc. Do not seem to relay to the other end.

I have a theory as to how this might be occurring, and may or may not be the answer. I believe the stock rom has precautions in place to ensure the battery saver does not hinder the quality of the microphone, and to not hinder other calling quality related settings. The manufacturer (Samsung) knows their phones best, and their capabilities, so they likely knew this was an issue and patched something with their stock rom to ensure this was never an issue. (Why else would they place the speaker on the bottom with the microphone right beside it?)

Again, this might not work for everyone, but it seemed to fix the issue for me. Make sure to turn off the battery saver when you're calling people. It should also be stated that the android version you're running might affect the way this solves the issue. Different versions come with more, or less levels of battery saving techniques, and may affect your results. If your phone has a battery saver slider (lets you fine tune the level of battery saving), it may or may not be a variable. My S5 running 19.1 had this very slider, and I maxed it out, which seemed to solve the issue on there. My S7 is running FloydQ as I stated before, so toggling off the battery saver appeared to fix it for me.

Hope this helps everyone, and thanks Ivan Meler once again for allowing me to experience the fluidness of your roms!!

Keep in mind that some LineageOS features have not been completed yet this is not a device bug and please do not report those
in this rom thread, also do not post bug reports for known issues or bug reports without proper
    a) Logcat
    b) proc/last_kmsg (or proc/kmsg)
    c) data/tombstones
    d) dmesg

Install gapps right after installing the rom itself don't try to boot to system before that if you want to use gapps (Or wipe data before installing them)

Make sure gapps you decide to use support android 12L/12.1/Are targetting api level 32
Also make sure you are using latest official TWRP before installing rom older versions do not have proper android 12 support

If you want to use Magisk use latest Magisk Beta (25.0) or Magisk 24.1, there is bug in 24.3 that was fixed after its release that prevents zygisk from working on some devices with 3.18 kernel

here it is August security update
Nothing major in this one as i am still working behind the scenes on that huge update i talked about previously which involves rewrite of almost whole graphics and media stack (its almost finished but i still have to do a bit more testing just to make sure there is no regression)

In other news android 13 should be released next month and since there were no major changes s7 should be running it soon after release with not too many issues and ill try to take a few days off from work to get it up and running on it once source is out

Once again huge thanks to everyone who supported this project, helped cover build server cost and got me coffee with donations.
This project wouldnt be alive without them as i do this in my free time as a hobby.

Enjoy new builds and stay safe

Since my birthday is tomorrow I decided to release a little surprise build. Here is a brief changelog:
    - Updated libexynosdisplay from BSP to comply with some android 12 changes
    - Removed unused build.prop entries
    - Fixed few selinux denials related to hwc props
    - Improved UI performance and stability
    - Cleaned up source
    - Removed more unneeded patches for device support
    - Synced with LineageOS source

Im aware of Seedvault issue curently present and im working on a fix for it.
I wanted to release something as a gift from me to everyone using this rom and supporting this project throughout the years. Keeping older phones alive and up to date is really fun hobby and I don't think I would've kept doing it if it wasnt for all of the support from the comunity.

Once again big thanks to everyone who helped cover the build serve cost and coffee.

Enjoy new build and stay safe

    - Merged July 2022. Security update
    - Fixed more keystore issues
    - Synced with LineageOS source

Also some important news, Exodusnick decided to provide huge help and he bought and shipped s7 to me which should be here next week, so all of exciting updates i talked about last week should be way easier to achieve and this will make testing and developement a lot easier, Once again huge thanks to him.

Also big thanks to donators that helped to cover build server cost and got me coffee which helped to keep this project up and running.

Thanks to this s7 should live for few more android releases without any major issues. and Android 12 will get even better with new hals that are curently in developement

There will be updates to 18.1 and 17.1 in a few days once july security updates have been ported to them

Enjoy new build and stay safe
