Already done with the ota so far so good. I'm just waiting for the changelog. :)

your on the stock ROM, backup anything you don't want to lose to your PC , check you didn't forget anything , check again. Reset your device to factory you mite need your Samsung account details . reboot
follow prompts until you can unlock the bootloader in dev options in settings
Make sure your phone has encryption turned off also
Shut down phone
boot into download mode
Download Odin and install it on PC
Flash TWRP in odin
Don't select reboot option
When it's says complete Reboot into TWRP bootloader directly.
Mount your phone to PC and copy Lineage ROM to sd or use USB stick whatever
Flash Lineage in twrp Wipe / clear cache etc. Do not reboot !
Flash Nikgapps in TWRP
( if you need anything that needs google services)
Flash Magisk In TWRP if you use apps that need root permissions..
Reboot.
Wait for lineage to do it's biz
Follow the prompts.
I would also probably install foxit package manager if you want Magisk modules repo list. But it's not needed.

If it all goes to **** restart steps from boot into Twrp and try again.

Pretty standard. If you get lost you can search this thread specifically but it's all there but generally that's the gist of it it's all pretty straightforward you'll get it. Gl hombre

As of now, I ask myself how so many people even installed this ROM.

For the last two days I did my research and am at a loss how to even root this phone and install a custom recovery to be able to install a custom ROM.

I understand it that sometime around 2018 there was a "change" to the security of the device and afterwards it kind of camecrushing down.

There are mainly these threads:

here

and

here

and when I read through the pages it seems most people do not even get it to root. And the guide in the second thread may be nice but I do not completely "get" it.

It was way easier when I did this in the past. The last devices I did this to just worked like "use ODIN and install twrp. Boot custom recovery, install Supersu, install Lineage, install Gapps. And that was it.

If one of the people who installed this ROM could give me a hand how he went about the steps before installing the ROM, I'd be pretty grateful.

I moved today to your LOS 20 project for the S8. Working like a charm. As I have a S10+ as well, very interested in your Oneui 5.1 port. Will install it soon. Thanks Ivan, amazing work!!

still same problem with the new update the one I call or call me gets static/white noise through bluetooth. I can change it to normal speaker that work but as soon as you put it on bluetooth source it wont work.. and I tried out my smart watch and my bluetooth headset. same on both ...
(EDIT) Changed to Lineage OS 20 and as BiG_FooT says it "works like a CHARM". No problems with bluetooth either so yet again it is one of the best roms around period. You are a frigging wizard Ivan_Meler. (EDIT)

This is great work! its working mainly perfectly for me and made my phone fast, like new.

The one odd issue I have is for some reason pin unlock stops working properly after a day or so, and additionally, any certain secure apps that are individually set to use biometric unlock suddenly disable biometric unlock and revert back to the apps password or pin to access. I even get a message from my banking app the moment it happens, that "A change to Fingerprint settings on you samsung device means that Fingerprint log in has been disabled for [banking app name] on your samsung device." I try to turn fingerprint back on for any of these individual apps and it does not let me (error or nothing happens when i switch on).

Anyway, in this state, the only way to unlock the phone is with fingerprint unlock not PIN, and the only way to unlock the individual secure apps is with PIN/pass and not fingerprint.

One other wierd side effect is that phone backup (seedvault) suddenly stops working too and I need to reset and enter a encryption words for it. At least one app (Signal messenger) does not even work, it silently crashes within a second of launch.

Anyone had this issue or any hints about where to look to resolve this related set of problems?

I installed TWRP (not Lineage recovery), NikGapps Core, latest version of this ROM.

EDIT: here is an example of a message I get in Aegis app when I try to re-enable the fingerprint unlock after it breaks. This is consistent with my banking app, and I assume others.
1680225192796.png

SO it sounds like the key store is breaking after some time. At some point something made everthing work again, but then it broke the next day. Maybe something I did "reset" the keystore or something, I have no clue what it is. If anyone has a hint please let me know 🙏

EDIT2: Mysteriously everything started working again. Though I still have to go through banking app etc and re-enable biometric login for each. I don't know what I did. Did not restart or anything, just came back an hour later and it works. At least PIN unlock is working, and I can re-enable biometric for apps. But I will not be surprised if it randomly breaks again at some point tomorrow for no apparent reason.

EDIT3: A few days later and its still working fine. I dont know what broke it, nor what fixed it but I'm very happy now. Sent a BTC donation to the creator of this ROM to say thanks for the great work.

Is the Bluetooth issue likely to be resolved at some point? I've been hoping in vain that an update would come along to clear the issue; I see above that version 20 is supposed to have working Bluetooth, but would prefer to avoid the hassle of a full rebuild if possible...

What Bluetooth issue you talking about, Currently I'm on los 20 and smart watch isn't connecting so I will downgrade to 19.1, Is it broken here too?

It stopped working with my Jabra BT headset and Parrot car kit two releases ago; remote end just hears white noise. Oddly (to me) it plays mp3s and apps (BBC Sounds) without issue. No mention of changes to BT in the release notes, and a rather odd silence regarding the cause from those that understand this stuff.

I guess it would make sense that it was broken in v20 too, but some people have reported that BT things that were broken worked when they upgraded; not sure if that's universally true, or due to the rebuild resetting stuff.

Oh I see, yesterday I actually downgraded to 19.1 and my smart watch connected successfully but I thought material you was supported in Android 12 too, that what I thought so I went back to 20 as I'm so used to material you now, this is a real annoying bug :(.

Hi, do you have a quality of life tip regarding the sound notification profiles (silent, vibrate only, noisy)?

I am looking for a shortcut (maybe a key combination) to toggle through this notification settings?

What I found is POWER+VOL-UP to force vibrate only.

    Here are some progress update
Here is android 13 working with new kernel that has BPF backport which took me days to properly backport, but it will help us get better overall experience in both 12 and 13 and future android versions
I just have to resolve some wifi issues and after those are done builds will be uploaded

Huge thanks to everyone who supported this project, helped cover the build server cost and got me coffee/pizzaa for time spent working on this.

here it is August security update

Nothing major in this one as i am still working behind the scenes on that huge update i talked about previously which involves rewrite of almost whole graphics and media stack (its almost finished but i still have to do a bit more testing just to make sure there is no regression)
(Im still waiting for a properly working s8/n8 listing to show up on ebay thats not overpriced so i can use it for testing as my s8 has messed up display and unfortunately import from UK turned out to be more expensive than s8 would be worth)

In other news android 13 should be released next month and since there were no major changes s8 and note8 should be running it soon after release with not too many issues and ill try to take a few days off from work to get it up and running on it once source is out

Once again huge thanks to everyone who supported this project, helped cover build server cost and got me coffee with donations.

This project wouldnt be alive without them as i do this in my free time as a hobby.

I havent posted an actual progress update in quite some time so here is some behind the scenes.
    • First of all selinux, that is actually being worked on and it should be supported in near future (Tho it needs some testing to make sure things dont break)
    • Kernel upstream and full eBPF support, thats on its way too so we wont need any hacks to make bpf work anymore which is a nice bonus + we will be able to use some nice new features like gpu monitoring which requires eBPF
    • HWC This is a big one, without revealing too much there is big progress on this behind the scenes and while it does require quite a bit of work once this is sorted we will have much better battery life and UI will be waaay smoother (2x increase at least), this and few other hals will be open sourced too once this is nearly finished so no more proprietary blobs for it
    • Keystore will also be looked into a bit further to see if there are edge cases left where some secure apps break
    • OMX again without going into too much details we will see some changes on that end and it will be open sourced
    • Camera, well ill just let this one be a surprise for now since it will require most work
There is a lot more going behind the scenes and some of those changes will take some time (Keep in mind i do this in my free time so i really cant talk about etas) but in general once most of those chanegs are up 8895 devices will be in perfect condition and once android 13 source is out it wont take too long to get it working.

Some other small notes since s8 i use to develop this rom on has broken screen (i use scrcpy to mirror screen on pc) im actually still looking into getting 8895 device, Someone offered to send one from UK but since im in EU ill have to look into import tax and stuff caused by brexit which is not fun to deal with.

And finally HUGE thanks to everyone who supported this project and helped cover the build server cost, thius project really wouldnt be possible without them, They also covered the coffee cost and some stuff like recent keystore fixes really took a long time to debug which indeed required a lot of coffee at night haha.
