Hey everyone,
while a friend of mine is not ready for a custom rom yet :p , she would like to try the default LineageOS Email app on her cedric stock rom (no unlocked bootloader, no mods whatsoever). She saw it on my 7.1 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/7-1-x-lineageos-14-1-moto-g5-t3611973) and I guess, if you're looking for an ad-free, clean and simple email client, that's a good one to try.
I found the apk on apkmirror (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/linea...1-0-release/email-8-1-0-android-apk-download/), I installed it, but it keeps crashin on startup, so here are my questions :)
1. Is it even possible to use the LineageOS Email app on another ROM?
2. If so, is there another dependency (another app, service or something), that has to be fulfilled?
3. Or is it not intended to use the app on another ROM?

Thanks for any pointers and regards,
Chris

I can get other versions of the app to work however it requires you also need exchange services apk but this needs to be installed as a system app due to permissions

Therefore unless you have a rooted device or can find a modified version that doesn't require this app to be installed as a system app you will not be able to use it

I suggest using a 3rd party app - the following is free and open source
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, that's what I was afraid of :p
Yeah, she tried K9 but was not entirely happy with it... can't remember why.
Anyway, thanks again for your help, much appreciated :)

@TheFixItMan - Email doesn't need the exchange apk to work, the app just adds the exchange button in the mail adress setup process. Without it, you can just use pop3 and imap.

@Chris180206 - you can try this one, it is from LOS 14.1 (wzedlare's build). It worked for me on many aosp roms installed as third party app, it could work on stock too.

The app will work as I mentioned in previous post but you will get exchange services has forced closed messages
Since I don't use the app I don't know if this is just during set up or if the force close messages will be persistent

Also I don't know what the persons use would be so if that's a requirement it won't work

@Zokhii: Thanks for the apk. you extracted that from /system/app right? i think i tried that one before on stock and it also failed, but i'll give it another go.
@TheFixItMan: You're absoletly right, I could have been more specific. The app will only be needed for pop3/imap.

Thanks both for your effort, I'll try again with the lineage 14.1 email apk.

Cheers,
C

email v10 can be found in lineage 17.1 at /system/product/app/Email/Email.apk
easy to extract using twrp file manager. after install on other aosp rom, manually go allow its permissions.. then it will run just fine.
