I have GNOME 3.6.1 running with my Ubuntu setup right now, very nice if I do say so myself, especially if you take advantage of the gnome extensions and installing icon packs/UI themes

I've also heard good things about Linux Mint too. The screenshots of thst look fine as well so I'm thinking about booting it from a flash a trying it out sometime in the next couple days

I don't like the gnome desktop anymore lol
Idk everything seems just off.
Like the bar on windows with the x button is just way too thick for my liking

Anyone here have any success dual booting linux with a preinstalled windows 8 machine? I've googled and googled and googled some more, and can't seem to find a way that works for me.

Is it a disk space issue or an installation issue? Have you tried wubi and a separate partition install? For me, i had to reinstall Windows 7 on a smaller partition because the immovable MBR block was at the end of the windows partition and so would not let me shrink it

I'm trying to do it on a seperate partition. I can shrink my main windows 8 partition and then install ubuntu 12.10 on it but I can't get it to boot properly. Always goes straight into windows 8.

Download EasyBCD and add Ubuntu to your bootloader list, you can set a timeout as well :good:

I do not care to use that after reading some of the reviews! I still have Ubuntu 12.10 installed on a separate partition but I can't boot into it. I'll keep toying with it and find a way eventually.

Do you have secure boot enabled?

Really. I found it very easy to use and a great utility, and also the only way to get it to show up in the list, and it was also recommended when I searched up my issue on askubuntu.
