So how exactly does it work? Is it essentially just a portable wireless charger? I have never seen something like this before.

The case is basically just a built-in battery pack that charges through the microUSB connector like any plug would. Once they cases runs out of power you have to recharge the case. That's pretty much it, fairly simple.

Thank you for the reply. None of the product pages show the bottom of the phone. I assume the speaker and the audio part are uncovered? I could not tell if any of them have flaps that can cover the ports to prevent dust. How does the battery stats on the phone understand the pack? Does it think it's on a constant charge or something?
Edit - nvm, I see the one case has a toggle to charge the phone.

Way too bulky IMO. I would gladly by a 2000-2200 capacity one in order to be a lot slimmer or slicker. Looks should be as important as functionality.

How about this case? The S6 variant has 1 review that it's good and but can't really judge by just 1 review.

Ah, good find! I'll add that to the OP. :good:

Sidenote: Personally I would be careful with these no-name branded batteries. These are the ones usually hear stories of exploding (in worst case) or just not being anywhere near the capacity they claim. But it good to have them added anyhow.

Looks like Slashgear posted a hands-on with the Mophie case today. Actually not a bad design at all.

Comsoon 3500mAh Ultra Slim Rechargeable Extended Charging Case

I bought this thing off of Amazon. The only real problem I have is that it doesn't fit snugly enough. It actually rattles around inside a little. The very top slides open so you can place the phone in and slid it down over the charger tip, then slide the top down to encase the phone. It feels like it would pop out of the case if I dropped it.

It does add some bulk, but coming from the Note 3, it's not too bad. The case doesn't seem to get in the way or effect the call or sound quality but the headphone port in the bottom is really narrow. I have to take the phone out of the case if I want to plug headphones in.

All in all, it does give you more power when your away from the charger. I have not tried to charge it up from empty using the battery pack, but in a pinch I think it would do okay if you leave it alone over night. It's really slow.

I would not buy this again, but it works and I'll keep it for now. At least until something else comes along.

Would be nice if any of these came with a MICRO SD CARD SLOT & QUICK CHARGE 2.0
That would be so helpful

    Mophie vs Incipio

Sorry it took so long for me to post pictures of the mophie, here are some pictures compared to the new incipio offgrid battery case. The incipio without a doubt is a much better deal, it is packed with features that the mophie does not have and it costs less as well. My only problem with the incipio is how it fits and feels in the hand. The first thing I don't really like is how the edge of the case is...it's more bulky and not as well designed as the mophie. The biggest problem wit h the incipio that I don't like is that the power button is on the bottom of the right hand edge of the phone. As a righty, this causes the power button to always be in the center of my palm. This shouldn't normally be a problem at all except that the power button is rectangular instead of being rounded, I find it to be uncomfortable when using the phone one handed. My guess is that most people wouldn't care but I personally don't like it. This is basically the only reason I will be keeping the mophie over the incipio.

Hmm good point actually. I'm pretty sure it's the same one and since it's cheaper on Amazon I'll just remove the Mobilefun listing then.
