thanks, and thanks for the pics. so it looks like the sides actually sit below the display, meaning it offers no protection when sat face down?

That's correct! No protection when placed face down. I currently have a supershieldz curved glass .. great fit (only on for 5 days), however you can tell from the photos that there is some rainbow in the middle when under certain light settings.
Yeah I doubt it. I got my [volt] reprieve case last week and it does have a slight rainbow effect. Honestly, I frigging love this case though and didn't even notice the rainbow "issue" until after a few days under florescent lighting. It's really not a huge deal to me. I rarely see it and can care less if I see a little rainbow at certain angles. Either way, totally awesome case! Very grippy on the sides and I love the color accent. However, a lighter color will get dirtier faster. One gripe, the power button is a little hard to 'feel' and a little stiff. But I can deal.

If you don't mind the Fosmon logo on the side, it's a thin clear TPU case, thinner than what Spigen and Ringke offer right now, and as thin as the Nillkin brand of cases if you've had those for your previous phones (none made for the Pixel 2 XL yet). It has protection for the rear camera, and a wafer-thin lip for the display.

i emailed both caseology and spigen today about adding more colors to their line or if they will. iphone x just came out and has a vast array of cases from both makers and many color options while spigen is literally limited to just black and gun metal.....

Same thing I thought but iPhone x pre order numbers were supposedly low and they still had a bunch of other cases available.
Spigen just assumed there would be a lot of orders just because it's an Apple device

The reporter i saw on that was that they were "only" going to move 20 million units by the end of the year. Still more than most Android phones sell.
Zizo finally put out a case for the pixel 2 XL. No holster on this one but at least they started creating something. 7 different colors and it has a kickstand. Available on their website and on Amazon.

caseology got back to me today and said if enough people asked for it more colors or options would be brought out. enough people emailed them and spoke to them about their cases for the iphones
Just received my carved case. IMO it's super nice. The volume and power buttons are flushed, so it's kind of annoying, but I don't really use them that often so not a deal breaker for me. The sides have a great texture to them and it makes for excellent grip. Think TPU nail file 
. Cutouts are perfect, the back wooden part looks and feels premium . The lip might be a deal breaker for some as it's really minimal. You can actually see the curve of the screen (love it) but there's still enough there to keep it from touching the surface when placed face down (barley). I'm still waiting on the intelliarmor, the lip is so minimal it actually might not work with the screen protector. Regardless, this case ain't coming off my phone in the foreseeable future.
