Ty. I am no means a developer..nor have any idea how to (took me three hours to create and flash a splash screen) there are only a few things I liked about running a rom with gingerbread: the messaging screen, ..(ie..the way multimedia shows up) actually..the entire messaging app period!, app drawer (I think..it looks 3D??..or like a "cube") and the keyboard.

I am using the gingerbread keyboard..but it does not have the emotions button built in.

Any roms that have these features? I have flashed SEVERAL. I am currently running and love re-engineered v

We have some talented developers, but porting a closed source framework (Sense) to an open source platform (AOSP 2.3) would take a TON of work. It's also of questionable legality (or outright illegal) to reverse engineer their closed source software, if I'm not mistaken. We've recently got a leak of Gingerbread Sense, and if it comes to the Incredible in an official capacity, then we'll have a stable framework to work off of. As for the odds of that happening, well, the original Desire is slated to get it by June. That gives us decent odds, but nothing guaranteed.

For what you're using:

If you like the stock messaging app as opposed to HTC's SMS/MMS app, you can swap in the messaging app from CM6. That SHOULD work on it. Or, download Handcent and use the Android bubble option (what I'm doing now).

If you want the 3D app drawer, you need a launcher that will do that for you, but then you lose the Sense UI and Sense widgets. I'm sure that would defeat the purpose for you. The closest you'll get back to that would be Launcher Pro Plus and the old Fancy Widget APK, with a custom Sense dock for LPP. Even then, it's not the same.

Wow. Ty. Alot of info. I am trying to follow a few builds..though I don't know what Android version the builds or ports are based on. (Ie. Incredible 2 rom..incredible S..).

As far as swapping the messaging app..like I stated..it took me 3 hours just to do my splash screen...I have no idea how to do that (remove the app from CM6 then flash into my current ROM), but..will try.

The app drawer..not a big issue..just a "like to have".

I downloaded ALL the software I could find to develope..but still have not figured out how to use most of it. Getting ready to move back to GA so extra time is not really an option to experiment right now.

Trust me. Warm Z is one of the best roms you will ever flash. *see my sig*
Warm Z (once I was informed I needed to revert to older version of CWM) is great! Still have to say that re-engineered v is my favorite as a whole. However, I am running incredible s ROM right now. No camera/video yet..but besides that...its good! Test it out.

Two options;

  1. Download CM7, extract the messaging app (not sure what it is called off the top of my head) from /system/app/, copy to your SD card, and install like you would normally sideload an app. You can do this with Astro, ES, or any other file manager.
  2. Download the ROM you're going to use, extract it to your desktop, delete the MMS app included, replace with the CM6 app, re-zip, then flash. Nandroid first.

I misspoke. On option one, use CM6, not CM7. CM7's messaging app is for Android 2.3.

Unzip the ROM you plan to use. Extract the CM6 messaging APK to the the ROM you plan to use, into the /system/app folder, then rezip the entire ROM.

Actually..now that I think about it..is the gapps file for CM7 different than for CM6 because of the 2.3 & 2.2? Or..am I thinking of the wrong ROM entirely..and DONT need to flash the gapps file?

Ok, clarify for me. I thought you were talking about the text messaging app. You're talking about the email app? Clarify for me and I'll pull it up for you.

Well..the text messaging app. But I would like the keyboard for all uses. I think its the same keyboard as the gingerbread keyboard with some additional tweaks minus the "emotion" button in the lower right corner. I can just download the keyboard from the market though.

Trying to get the stock rom back on my phone (as a back-up). I am wanting to stay rooted. Followed the link on the first page. Some reason it keeps saying installation aborted. I tried going s-off and put the stock rom on root of SD. Hboot says something about an image..but does not ask to update. Any idea how to get the stock rom to install?

Might want to add this..I had an image of the stock rom saved to SD but yesterday I accidently formatted my card..lost everything. Could that have anything to do with why I can not get the downloaded stock roms to install now?

You need to boot into clockwork and flash the .zip from your card.

1) I would think you would know this.. but you can't flash it without it being on the card. So connect via USB and make sure it's there.
2) Boot into recovery aka clockwork, it should have a black background, not white. You can boot into it through hboot.

I finally got it to work. Had on SD card. Wiped everything three times..flashed the ROM. First time was stuck in bootloop. Re-wiped, flashed again..came right up.

Thank you.
