No need to be sorry for. Maybe some more information are needed. I can see from your screenshots that you use TWRP v2.8.6.0 but where you get it? Have you by any chance use "fix permissions" or any other advanced settings? Can you mount system in TWRP? What settings are you using in TWRP mount menu when you start flashing zip? (should be cache, data and external storage and not system). Any other problems with TWRP erlier? Any more information in TWRP logs?

Thanks, i guess when installing (TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.14-RELEASE.installer) from (http://nut.xperia-files.com/) it also installed TWRP. If this is incorrect, can you provide me a link on which one i should use.

Have you by any chance use "fix permissions" or any other advanced settings?-
I have not used or made any changes in fixed permission in TWRP. but should I...

Can you mount system in TWRP?-
Unsure how to do that...

What settings are you using in TWRP mount menu when you start flashing zip?-
only thing ticked is cache, data and external storage.

Any other problems with TWRP erlier?-
I was never able to install anything in TWRP. I was always getting signature verification failed 1 when its ticked before installation. BUT when its not ticked, it installs for a few seconds "i cant remember what happen" i think it reboots itself back into TWRP. when rebooting into the system, its not lollipop still in (SGP511_17.1.2.A.0.314_Customized NCB (Nordic Combined) )
question posted here(http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet/general/update-t3082546/page6)

I've attach video of the default setting in TWRP... hope you can see what im doing wrong.

It should work just fine. How ever you may want try with PhilZ recovery instead of TWRP.

This is also correct. No need to fix.

Tick system in mount setting and see if you can browse to system folder and see what there are inside?

Your settings seems to be correct but there is something wrong with you TWRP. Did you do clean install to .314 firmware? I suggest that you first try PhilZ recovery. If it also fails flash .314 firmware again with full wipes, root and install Dualrecovery again. You could also try with 2.8.12 version of Dualrecovery from nut files or I can give you link to even earlier version if you want. By the way can you make a nandroid backup with TWRP to external sd? If yes, make one but only of you data, put it in safe place and do clean install.

I finally got it working with TWRP. for some reason it was failing with my 64GB micro SD card. the card works but from some reason TWRP didn't like it. it all worked fine when i changed the SD card for a 32GB. Now im in the market for another 64GB or even a 128GB... any suggestion on which micro SD card i should buy? I have a Xperia Z2 Wifi (SGP511)... THANKS for your help kulvertti. If your in NY, i'll buy you a beer.

Glad you made it. Personaly I use Transcend UHS-I 300x Premium 64GB model which has been realible. Not the fastest I know though. Before that I have some Sandisk models which cause problems time to time. There are so many cards in the market which I haven´t test so can´t help you there.
And thank you. Cheers.

Thanks. I was able to install the SGP521 flashable on my Japanese Z2 Tablet, Docomo branded SO-05F model. The tablet is stable and everything works so far except of course the Japanese TV tuner. I have not tested the cellular yet because it is still network sim locked.

Please help

Hi-
I just got a brand new Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet 32GB wifi, SGP512, USA, Stock.

Android Version: 4.4.4
Build number: 23.0.1.A.4.30
Kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-ged66f4f

It's my wife's really but I just can't resist. It's completely virgin. Factory fresh.
I hope this is a good place to chime in...I haven’t been here in a while so I'm a little rusty and there are many threads on this topic.
I just read dozens of different threads, hundreds of pages on rooting this thing, and need verification please?

I started here…and let me know if this should be moved.

From kulvertti http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet/general/lollypop-t3057435 :

If you allready are in LolliPop firmware without working recovery you need to downgrade you firmware first to rootable firmware.
1. Download rootable .314 firmware here: https://mega.co.nz/#!kcxxjaLA!itErjR...yY4GwEzY3xgHZ0 and flash it via Flashtool.
2. Root your device with tool you choose. (Dualrecovery installer option 3, Easy Root Tool, Giefroot or other).
3. Install SuperSu to your device from Play store if your root tool don´t do it.
4. Install Dualrecovery with installer if you haven´t allready.
5. Resume your KitKat nandroid backup with custom recovery.
6. Flash prerooted .690 firmware with custom recovery.
7. Before booting up wipe cache/dalvik cache.
8. Boot your device and you are done.
This is what I got so far:

* I already got all the usb drivers, adb drivers, Sony PC Companion, etc…..installed on my PC and working.

1. I'm not in LolliPop, but I think 4.4.4 is unrootable so I need to downgrade with:

SGP511_17.1.2.A.0.314_Customized NCB (Nordic Combined).ftf

and use Flashtool to flash to Xperia Z2 Tablet?.

-- I'm on Win Vista64, does it matter which flashtool-0.9.18.5-windows.exe I use? both, x86 or 64, seem to work the same for me.
-- Do I use 'Flashmode' in Flashtool? 'Fastboot mode' looks too confusing?

2. Next I root and I have both EasyRootTool v12.4 and TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15-RELEASE.installer on my PC ready to go.

-- They both look like they use tr.apk for root but is one preferred over the other?
-- If I use TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15-RELEASE.installer option 3 for root, does it also install Dualrecovery?
-- I assume I have 'locked Bootloader'? Does it matter? What does unlocking do? Any advantages/disadvantages either way?
-- Can I just use Flashtool to root or are the others better/easier?

3. Next I install SuperSU and I have UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 on my PC ready to go.

4. Next I install Dualrecovery and I have TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15-RELEASE.installer on my PC ready to go.

5. Next I resume KitKat nandroid backup with custom recovery.

-- Not sure exactly on this but I think this is something I do from inside Dualrecovery from device?
-- Which recovery is better/easier to do this?

6. Next is to flash prerooted .690 firmware with custom recovery and this is where I need some verification please.

-- For this I made my own prerooted firmware file of Sony version 23.1.A.1.28 using PRFCreator_v0.8:

-- The 3 file packages I used were:
SGP512_23.1.A.1.28_Generic US.ftf
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15-RELEASE.flashable.zip

-- I used two different methods to get the .ftf file just to see if I would get the same result.

Method 1: Sony PC Companion_Web.exe and flashtool-0.9.18.5-windows.exe to build the .ftf file.
Method 2: XperiFirm_4.5.3_(by_Igor_Eisberg) and flashtool-0.9.18.5-windows.exe to build the .ftf file.

NOTE: I removed the TA portion of the decrypted files when the .ftf was built.

NOTE: Both methods produced identical .ftf files….as far as I can tell.

-- My settings for PRFCreator_v0.8 when I made the prerooted firmware of Sony version 23.1.A.1.28 were:

All 4 boxes under 'Include' were ticked plus the 'Sign Zip' box was ticked….all 5 boxes ticked.
No Extra Zips were added, only the 3 file packages listed above were included.

-- Based on this information I provided in this step 6, do you see any problems with me flashing
this prerooted 23.1.A.1.28 firmware file? Or what should I do different?
-- Do I flash my prerooted 23.1.A.1.28 firmware from inside dualrecovery?
-- Which recovery is better/easier to do this?

7. Next I wipe cache/dalvik cache before I boot.

-- Does this mean that after I flash my prerooted 23.1.A.1.28 firmware from inside dualrecovery
there is other options to wipe the cache?
-- Which recovery is better/easier to do this?

8. Boot device with fingers crossed.

-- I'll need to make donations and give thanks to plenty of folks.

Sorry for the lengthy read.

My god man. You went to too much trouble.
You must downgrade with flash tool. ..you discribed yourself....not fastboot mode no. Then use towelroot to root the device ....it can be found here on the z2 section. Then look for Nuts dual recovery to flash custom recovery...and then look for latest prerooted flashable zip from kulvertti which you can flash through the custom recovery...no flashtool needed anymore. That's it...you have a rooted lollipop z2 tablet !!!
Locked bootloader doesn't matter... I have it too
Good luck

Nope. Both works.
-- Do I use 'Flashmode' in Flashtool? 'Fastboot mode' looks too confusing?
Yes, use flashmode.

-- They both look like they use tr.apk for root but is one preferred over the other?
Nope. Your choice.
-- If I use TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15-RELEASE.installer option 3 for root, does it also install Dualrecovery?
Yes.
-- I assume I have 'locked Bootloader'? Does it matter? What does unlocking do? Any advantages/disadvantages either way?
If you haven´t unlocked your bootloader, then yes you have locked one. It doesn´t matter with this. Unlocking bootloader delete your DRM keys and some Sony stuff won´t work anymore. But after unlocking bootloader you can use custom kernels or ROM´s that use custom kernels.
-- Can I just use Flashtool to root or are the others better/easier?
Your choice. Point here is to have root and have read/write acces to system partition. (Disable Sonyric).
-- Not sure exactly on this but I think this is something I do from inside Dualrecovery from device?
-- Which recovery is better/easier to do this?
I recommend TWRP and yes you do your nandroid backup with custom recovery.
-- Based on this information I provided in this step 6, do you see any problems with me flashing
this prerooted 23.1.A.1.28 firmware file? Or what should I do different?
You can try with your .zip file. If problems occure you may want to try without signing your zip.
-- Do I flash my prerooted 23.1.A.1.28 firmware from inside dualrecovery?
-- Which recovery is better/easier to do this?
Yes. I recommend TWRP.
-- Does this mean that after I flash my prerooted 23.1.A.1.28 firmware from inside dualrecovery
there is other options to wipe the cache?
-- Which recovery is better/easier to do this?
Use TWRP and after flashing your zip there is option for that.
Good luck.

Huge thanks kulvertti....I'll try this tomorrow and report back. Special thanks for the line by line. Thought I was on the right track but I know just enough to be dangerous, so I like to ask questions. Thanks for the time and patience.

Damn that's nice…almost went perfect. Thanks again Kulvertti. Only two minor hiccups really.

The first one was a near shocker when right in the middle of flashing the downgraded rootable firmware my power went out and I had three minutes of battery backup on my UPS that ended up to be less than a minute and the computer shut off. I was watching the flash progress and it was only about 2/3 of the way complete, maybe, if that. Well I thought I had just bought the farm and the power came back on about 2 seconds later too. So I tried to reboot my PC but I was now getting an error on my UPS…because my battery is now bad…and the computer wouldn’t turn on and the UPS was beeping loudly. So I removed the battery, that stopped the beeping, and switched the plugs for the PC to the nonUPS'd outlets. Now I could turn on the PC. While the PC was rebooting I noticed on the tablet a message that the update was interrupted and didn’t complete and I needed to repeat the update. Therefore I just left the tablet plugged into the PC and after the PC was completely rebooted I restarted the Flashtool64 and reflashed. I had to delete some files that were previously created during the failed attempt though but it did it's thing perfect after that. Thank god that program is robust enough to give proper feedback and messages. A+++ to the creator of that.

Once I was in the downgraded firmware and used the Dualrecovery2.8.15 option 3 which left me in TWRP and then since I had already previously put the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and my own prerooted SGP512_23.1.A.1.28_Generic US-signed.zip on the external sdcard I just did everything from TWRP and could skip your step 4. I did check the box for 'signed zip' in TWRP for both of the zip installs and they both ran perfect. I also did the nandroid backup in between the two zip installs.

I think my next minor hiccup was the wipe cache/dalvik cache because I missed the button after the prerooted SGP512_23.1.A.1.28_Generic US-signed.zip install and use the wipe button from the home screen and ended up doing a factory reset really I think is what happened….maybe not?...maybe it's same thing? I'm not sure. When I restarted the tablet it took forever of blue wavy screen before it finally put me into going through the setup procedure as if a brand new tablet….it might have been 5 minutes or so….probably the longest duration of any of the procedures I just described.

So now I'm in 5.0.2 and 23.1.A.1.28 rooted and tested both recoveries and all is good. I still have lots of fiddling of apps before I have it perfect though.

I did notice the external sdcard write didn’t work from the Astro File Manager Pro I installed but it works from the stock Filecommander app?? I think I remember doing an edit on some system file that fixed that on my Tablet S...

Thanks again and A+++ to everyone involved in all the programs needed to pull this stuff together.

Thanks but, Didnt do it for Astro 4.6.0.4 ???
You can also do it manually. Go to "/system/etc/permissions" folder with file browser of your choice (with root acces) and find file "platform.xml". Make a backup of original file and then open it. Find the line
Code:
<permissions  name="android.permissions.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE>
and add this line
Code:
<group gid="media_rw" />
Save "platform.xml" file and check that permissions are 644. Reboot your device. Done.
Or I made flashable.zip -file which do it.
This is only needed for some apps that don´t yet use Lollipop permissions as their can.
