If I am on 4.4.4 (.292) on my C6506 USA Generic and have root, will the OTA update work? I don't necessarily care about keeping root, I just don't want the update to fail. Will it work?

Just try if it doesn't work it will revert and say update failed.
But it will work when you have root, as always, but this time reports say you will lose root.

I'm waiting a bit while I still have root.
Locked bootloader root guides are quite extensive.
I'm hoping for easy root or a NUT update.

I received the following message informing you of the update on the C6503. It seems necessary to use the PC. I will try and then post the result here. Sorry for the bad English.

Actually, the root itself is pretty simple (I used PRFcreator with SuperSU, worked like a charm; Kingroot didn't work). If you want to add Xposed, then it becomes a pain in the rear to go through all the steps. And, of course, the big problem is that there is no working recovery yet for LB... :(

Up and running so far smooth as never before. Not even the CM12 was so smooth. Missing root only.
Why? You can follow the guide to create a prerooted or even use my guide how to root if you have a unlocked bootloader... It's not that hard. And as serajr said you can install the busybox (stericson) to be able to use Xposed. In a few steps: fastboot boot.img -> recovery -> flash SU and flash busybox -> power off -> flash kernel from the new firmware -> power on till fully booted -> power off -> fastboot boot.img -> recovery -> flash xposed -> power off -> flash kernel from the new firmware -> power on -> done.

If you only need root (not xposed) just flash SU and the kernel, done. Not that hard, right?

You're right I saw the xposed steps!
Will try with PRFcreator, except my USB cable is dead (or my xperia port :( )
I don't care for recovery. I will install it on 4.4 to install the prerooted ftf.

I'm on a locked Bootloader not to lose the Mobile Bravia engine. I will wait a while to have a method for locked Bootloader. Thank you!

I will not lose root after locking the bootloader? Tested this process?
I tested that on kitkat and it worked well!

I backed up TA partition, unlocked the bootloader, flashed a custom kernel with recovery, booted into recovery, flashed SU, then flashed back original kernel and relocked bootloader with TA restore.

Didn't loose root, didn't loose bravia, didn't loose DRM-keys.

I will do the same when lollipop arrives for my device.
