Interesting impressions on the fingerprint reader. The fingerprint reader on the Nexus 6p and OG Pixel were possibly the fastest and most accurate around. Many reviews I've seen mentioned it's actually gotten better/faster than OG pixel. Maybe fastest in any phone. Possibly, your device had a faulty fingerprint reader?

I had heard the same thing, and that's one thing that swayed me toward getting it. Wonder if mine just had a dud sensor....

I actually didn't. It's another pointless thread about your reasons. Who cares!!
Just so I'm clear, you're posting an unsolicited opinion criticizing me for daring to post an unsolicited opinion? It's all good man, hope you don't lose any sleep over my opinion! Have a great night.

Great response! Just what I was thinking.
I actually didn't but there's many people who are starting new threads of their opinion why there returning their phone. I suggest making one thread where all you can vent. I rather not see 50 threads of the same matter. Enjoy what ever new phone you get. This phone will still be around for a bit and you'll always not be satisfied with whatever phone you buy. Dueces ✌

I agree. It get tiresome to read new threads about the same issue all the time. They should be merged but that's a moderators decision to make.

You could, you know, not read the new screen threads. That's a much better option than posting rude remarks. Forum like this are supposed to spur conversation. If you don't what someone is talking about then all you have to do is not read it. Your responses, "who cares about your opinion?' and "bye, nobody cares why you're returning it." are pretty rude. Tell us, is this how you respond to people in social situations? I'm guessing not. The same rules should apply here.

And I hope people one day stop being surprised that other people might have different opinions on what are essentially very complex devices. Personal observations that don't jive with yours do not equal 'lies' lol.

O_O good grief!
Fanboy here, ordered in 1st shipments of N6, N6P, PXL, P2XL, and shockingly enough I'm publicly considering returning it. OMG!!!!
My experience has been pretty meh on the GPS, Radio, Fingerprint and touchscreen responsiveness. (I lowered my expectations about the screen quality when it was announced LG was manufacturer. Regardless, the screen is OK YMMV. I may keep it simply because I don't feel like waiting out another year with my Pixel XL, with some pretty serious burn-in, plus I really want the waterproof and stereo speaker NOW, even if they are not the best implementations.
HERESY!!!

your own preferences and reason, as someone who owns the device, and happens to like what i have received, you are doing what you feel you should with your dollars. this is a post where for once, i wont be a rude prat. you gave it the chance, and you are not happy. more power to ya, and good luck. this may be the year where phone makes realize we would rather a new laptop for the same price as a "phone", and their profit margin needs to be realistic with how picky people will be with the newer devices.
and yes, if you read other posts of mine, i am critical of the constant negative stuff about the common on many screens, diagonalBlues. i understand , the lack of wireless charging was upsetting to me, i weighed all the negatives and removed features, and realized, i rarely use wired headphones and otheer stuff like that, and i refuse to have wireless charging running while i sleep (there are some issues with this tech that should warrant monitoring). the screen for me, has zero burn in after heavy use. (i also ordered on announcement night). im wondering if its a batch with bad screens, and screens after the rush are ok. bad luck of the draw for some.
im sure some of the dont let the door hit you on the way out, is most likely from my matching frustrations of everyone so tired of all of the negative nitpicky AR people in the community. let it slide, you gave your reasons.

Oh y'all actually thought I was talking about him not liking the phone LOL. I'm talking about how he lied about justifying stuff. But y'all are cute :^)

Him returning a phone bothers me not one bit, he doesn't pay my bills, doesn't make love to me nor give me money nor his last name. I just found the contradictory/lie funny.

EDIT: the warranty is now 2 years, and with preferred care, you get 2 free accidental damage claims during those 2 years. not a third year as I originally thought, still pretty good.

Ironically, Google's efforts to keep people buying the Pixel 2s (and not returning them) has pushed me into returning mine.

Google has extended their warranty to 2 years and have just now removed the deductible on the extra year of protection. I'm sending my back, even if I decide to just repurchase later with the extra year of deductible free insurance.

I pass mine down to my kids and 2 years of protection from 2 accidents seems pretty good.

"Hi, my name is browniegirl, though I used to be known as ComicBookGuy. I enjoy trolling random posts, insulting people's integrity, and then not backing it up with any factual information. I also say LOL a lot, even though what I said wasn't really funny."

In all seriousness, as you are obviously misinformed, you can follow the link below to understand the definition of "lie". I think you may have it confused with "stating an opinion" or even "posting random thoughts on a product or products in an effort to spur discussion on said products." As a lie is actually an intentional effort to deceive, and you are unable or unwilling to offer proof of said intentional deception, I hereby label you a troll, and wish you a speedy recovery.

You know, I'm not bothered by any color shifting or dullness, not even with burn in (been running immersive with pie for years), but simply knowing that there are indeed issues that shouldn't exist bothers me greatly.
Even though it doesn't affect me I feel pretty disappointed in Google and their QC. I actually read today that there are some who got the phone without Android installed lol!

I'm glad that there are others like yourself who are returning and RMAing Google into oblivion. The bad press they're getting should help too. They should behave like a premier phone maker if they want to be viewed and treated as one.

Would I personally return my unit though? Nah, I really like this phone :p the message already been sent and received by google, why should I suffer :p

I received my 128GB Pixel 2 XL on Friday, and as of Saturday night, it was already back in the box and the return submitted. I REALLY wanted to love this phone. Ordered it knowing about the potential for a less than stellar display. Even though I already have a Galaxy S8+, and I don't really have many complaints about it, Samsung bloat is a very real thing, and it affects the phone in many ways. So I loved the idea of pure Google. I had a Nexus 6 many phones ago, and even with its issues it was great.

It doesn't take much for me to justify the purchase of a new gadget, I'm kind of an addict. And I don't have ANY brand loyalty, though I am definitely an Android fanboi in general. I loved pretty much everything about my Huawei Mate 9 - if that phone had waterproofing and an OLED display I’d probably still have it. I use my phone as my alarm clock at night, so the always-present backlight of LED displays is a killer for me. Need them OLED blacks!

So without further adieu - my P2XL observances, in no particular order:
CON: Display blue shift - the blue shift wasn't a deal breaker in and of itself, but it was definitely noticeable and intrusive for me. I may have gotten used to it, but combined with everything else.....
CON: Speakers - I expected more quality from the speakers. I remember the Nexus 6 sounding much better than the P2XL, and the Mate 9 even sounded much better with pseudo-stereo speakers.
CON: Ambient Display - VERY minimal and not as useful as Samsung's. Changing tracks, notifications, even having a photo on there is pretty nice.
CON: Fingerprint sensor - Not even close to as sensitive as the Mate 9. Even though the positioning on the P2XL was 942% better than the S8+ fingerprint sensor (especially since I use my phone left handed), I just couldn't get the Pixel sensor to quickly and reliably unlock each time. I was very much looking forward to having a usable fingerprint sensor. Better than the Samsung, but just positioning, not performance.
CON: Burn-in - I didn't personally notice any burn-in, but I didn't look for it either as I was pretty sure it would be there based on all the previous reviews and Google’s admission of its existence. The possibility of it being noticeable and intrusive in a matter of weeks was always in the back of my mind, and didn’t lend to confidence in the quality of the display.
CON: PRICE - 'nuff said.

PRO: Even after enjoying the displays of the Note 5, S7 Edge, and S8+, I didn't mind the P2XL colors at all. In fact I preferred it to the super-vibrant S8+ display. Accurate colors are good. They didn’t look “washed out” to me, but Samsung definitely looks exaggerated/fake/inaccurate.
PRO: Speed - there's no question the P2XL is VERY fast. For having the same processor as the S8+, it sure doesn't feel like it. Samsung lag is real, even if it's not obtrusive most of the time. With the Pixel, bang boom it's done.
PRO: Battery life - even though I only used it for 1.5 days, it was evident the battery life was going to be stellar.
PRO: Camera - no need to even go into it. Awesome. Fantastic.
PRO: Android auto was FAST. Holy crap. Very noticeable difference using AA on the Pixel vs the S8+.

I was fairly neutral on the lack of wireless charging and headphone jack. Although I use wireless charging every night, it's not much more difficult to plug in. Wireless was much more of a necessity for me with the Note 5, as the battery life wasn't good enough to last all day. Just kept it on my Qi stand at work, and never had to worry about it. not an issue with the S8+ or the P2XL, so it's moot. And the headphone jack - I already have 3 decent pairs of BT headphones, and plan on getting a good set of BT 5.0 earbuds when the "ideal" set becomes available. I rarely use wired anymore, and I don't think I'd ever really miss the jack.

So basically, I liked (not loved) the P2XL For me there were too many compromises for me to justify the premium price. Yep it’s fast, and has top-tier INTERNALS, but when you’re interfacing with a sub-par display, fingerprint reader, and speakers for hours a day, it’s just too much to pay. It’s like getting a OnePlus 5 when you paid for an iPhone X. The OnePlus is a fine device, but most wouldn’t pay almost 1k for it. If the P2XL 128GB was $600, maybe. Over $900 - no way.

TL;DR - Bottom line, just as the reviewer (and many others) stated, the quality of the device just doesn’t match the price tag. There wasn’t a single deal-breaker for me personally, but the cons all added up to make it not worth the purchase price. Keeping my eye on the Mate 10 Pro….
Have to say for me personally, the S8 and Note 8 red screen tint and awful mono speakers make them no go. I sold my S8+ pretty sharpish and went back to a Pixel 1 which was better than the S8+.
The speakers on the Pixel 2 which I have while waiting on the XL 2 make the S8+ I had sound pathetic.
As for the fingerprint reader, the Pixel 2 fingerprint reader is as fast and accurate as you need, you can't bring chinese knock off Hua-wei phones into this discussion just because they have a fast fingerprint reader!

The Pixel 2 XL screen is great and the one I played with had no blue tint, and the less saturated cooler colours suit me fine.

Luckily my s8+ didn't have any of that uneven red tint, but I know plenty of devices were affected. Definitely would have at least swapped for a new one until I had a good one. And can't disagree about the speaker quality either, S8+ (and the S7 Edge and the Note 5....) Is pretty pathetic. Pixel 2XL sound is definitely better, but maybe I was just soured by the Mate 9, because the Pixel didn't sound good enough TO ME for having stereo speakers. I didn't like the blue shift on the Pixel, but it wasn't a deal breaker. And I actually liked the colors. Realistic-ish is good. Fingerprint sensor wasn't horrible at all, just not as good as the Mate 9. Certainly better than the S8+!

But again, if I was starting from scratch with maybe a Note 5 or something and was choosing a new phone right now, not sure which I would choose. It's close. Hopefully Google gets a few issues worked out and the 2 XL gets even better. That's a great ending for everyone.

Edited due to ton o' typos.
