Mine (506) just went to bootloopland few hour ago, after 13 months
Fortunately, it is under waranty with Telenor, so I hope that mobo will be replaced with the one that is boot-loop resistant - if any ..

Just for the record, phone worked flawlessly for more than year, and just yesterday I've noticed very small, bearly noticable lag during normal operation, and my battery started loosing charge more rapidly than ussual..Today I havent used phone much, and after one phone call, it just went to boot-loop.

Hi, it seems like my LG G4 with 601 SN: 601KPXV942378 bootlooped today at night (est. time from manufacture 1 year(s) 4 month(s) 1 week(s) 2 day(s) - (manufactured in January 20, 2016). My phone had yesterday at 23:50 aprox. 15% battery, I came to phone today at 8:00 morning and battery was at 0%. I plugged in charger, turned on phone and it is still booting, nothing happens. Phone is aprox. 1 year old, still like new, even with original screen protector. Still in warranty.

**** YOU LG!   I won't buy anything from LG anymore after this.   Aggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Burn in hell. It seems like "planned obsolescence"!! Consumer society and pure capitalism. Nobody buy from LG anymore! All things will **** up one day!

Sadly, all early versions of LG G4 will go into bootloop sooner or later. The culprit is the defective expoxy underfill used between SD808 and 3GB ram chip layered above it. Thermal expansion of epoxy will break the solder bond between the chips, causing bootloop. That's why all the reflow attempts also fail. Only way to repair is to desolder the 3GB ram chip and scrape out the epoxy underfill, reball/solder back 3GB ram chip.

So it means every single motherboard will fail no matter which S/N it has? Even it is 505 or 704?
Or I didn't understand correctly and the only motherboards that will fail are that early ones? And - what means that "early"? To which S/N is it possible to fail?

Actual heavy usage is what kills the G4 and the other devices suffering bootloops, it's simple physics more than anything else. The solder they used develops microfissures in it (same stuff that happened to all those defective Nvidia GPUs years ago): when people really go hard on using the devices, they heat up, then when they're done they're allowed to cool down and this heating and cooling aka expansion and contraction over and over and over again causes those microfissures aka cracks to develop in the solder and at some point it gets bad enough where not enough or not electricity will pass through the connection to keep it working properly hence, bootloops and shutdowns and dead devices.

No different than pavement developing cracks and potholes - it heats up and expands, it cools down and contracts, over time that just worsens and voila, it's not gonna work as designed.

There's no absolute certain test for or diagnosis for the bootloop issues, suffice to say if you don't hammer your devices with hours and hours of any activity that requires it to max out the CPU/GPU for temps and then it cools down then you go right back and do that over and over again, it will die on you sooner than someone like myself that never plays games, never really does much of anything that maxes out the CPU/GPU on my devices.

I know it sucks that this happens and continues to happen but the G4 is 2 years old now - mine has a date code of May 29 2015 so it is literally 2 years and 1 day old today and it's still going and I have no reason to expect it to die anytime soon because of my usage patterns but it could, there's no denying that, at any given moment when I least expect it just like anyone else's G4 could or one of the other devices from LG known to suffer the same aspects because of that solder.

All you can do is use the device till it (more than likely) dies and then move on, really.

I don't think it's heavy usage. My LG G4 died even though I disabled big cores and ran no heavy apps. Meanwhile, my samsung sch-i730 from 2005 is still chugging along after 12 years of usage! The problem lies in the defective underfill used by LG between SD808 and 3GB ramchip. If LG had not used this underfill, there would be no bootloop epidemic.

I must agree with you, I barely used my G4 and it is still like new phone. I wasn't playing games etc. I was just calling a messaging most of the time. I think every LG G4 motherboard will suffer with bootloop (no matter which serial number it is). LG knows about the problem and they don't care. They are still manufacturing defective motherboards. There is already lawsuit in CA.

My phone just got back with replaced motherboard. Motherboard version is 705, and it is produced 8th of May 2017, so extra fresh peace of hardware. Considering usual pattern, I hope that this means at least one year of usage before next bootloop :D

That might be a reason why we don't have 7.0 yet. I think that all LG G4 phones will die until they release 7.0 Nougat. They know about the problem and they are doing nothing! They are still manufacturing defective mainboards. I hope I will get money back and I won't buy anything from LG anymore. If not, I will make them a great PR.

Yes it's too bad. I also really like LG G4 design, back button layout, knock on etc. 16MP Camera is also still great even now. Also LG G4 is the easiest phone ever to disassemble. Too bad LG had to use defective underfill which completely compromised otherwise a great phone.

nougat or MM or LP either one will bootloop no matter what it isnt software related. and nougat will be released.. that doesnt make sense at all.

I've got a H815 SEA (Singapore) manufactured 510. It bootlooped about a month ago. No warranty at all. The bootloader is locked (SEA never got unlocked).

My question- is there any point contacting LG and trying to get this fixed? Some people online were mentioning LG was fixing some devices out of warranty free of charge. The potential complication is that I live in the US but my G4 is a SEA variant. I tried contacting the US LG service and they said i'd have to ask the Amazon seller to determine the proper LG branch to contact. I might try again and see if I can escalate. I'll try contacting Singapore support too if I have too.

Any hope for salvaging this mess? Advice would be appreciated. If all else fails, I guess i'll have to hope something comes of the class action lawsuit.

He want to say that LG is satured, submerged by bootloops feedbacks with warranty ....and i don't think that they want to release N (spend energy and money with devellopers for a general defective devices) ,it make sense ....
But if they decide to upgrade ,i think that it's a bad idea because too much people abandon their G4 and he is not sold any more...a big commercial failure.

Followup to my above post-

I called LG's support line, US branch. I only had to tell them the phone wasn't booting and they immediately mentioned the word bootloop by assumption (guess they are getting extremely common) and agreed to help even with my no warranty SEA version. Though she said they'd be sending me a new US carrier G4 instead of repairing my H815 SEA version. They're not charging me for anything apparently.

Now I still might end up hitting a snag. The original LG battery failed and expanded enough to actually pop off the back cover. Given the fire hazard involved, I disposed of it immediately. Official LG batteries were $40 at the time, too pricey compared to higher quality third party ones. Got a TQTHL instead and it works great. But i'm concerned that this may impact my ability to get service. The LG rep said she didn't know how the service center would handle the situation, though suggested I try sending it in anyways with the replacement. So i'm including the replacement battery and a note explaining it. Hopefully they will be accommodating, we'll see...
