I Get the Mixed Feelings - But.....
DU supports the original Pixel 3 XL (crosshatch): does the 3a XL support crosshatch-targeting (original Pixel 3 XL) ROMs, or does it require a different build tree? (As far as TWRP goes, it already exists for the 3a XL..). It's called "having options" - and the 3a XL has a truckload of them - and it's a position I haven't been in - not even when I was still using the Galaxy Nexus as my daily driver. How much is your reticence due to not being used to having the option?

With the 3a XL, that is so NOT the problem. Price-wise, it is practically the Galaxy Nexus Remade, but without its flaws in terms of development. The original Pixel 3 XL is out there (crosshatch); where I am, in fact, curious is what differences, if any, are there that impact ROM development vs. the original Pixel 3 (the idea that there aren't any is silly - the passage of time, and the differences merely in terms of hardware wreck that argument), still, the question does need to be asked. It's easily rootable, it's also easily TWRPable (last true of the Galaxy Nexus among hardware that I have owned), and the maintainer itch is the easiest it has EVER been among hardware I have personally owned (thank you, Google). If anything, the 3a (both of them) are ideal for those that get the Maintainer Itch - but are on a budget.

I get the mixed feelings (I with stock on my S7 Snapdragon because I had no choice); however, I went AOSP on the Galaxy Nexus the S7 replaced (Dirty Unicorns -starting with Marshmallow, in fact). I have a seemingly-silly question concerning AOSP (and DU in particular).I stopped using custom roms when Marshmallow came out.
But I still use EX for the kernel..

In my case, it is not boredom - I got the "maintainer itch" back when I was rocking the GNex; however, I couldn't scratch it then (too many flaws in the GNex as a platform).Same here bro ...i love more options and features cuz then it feels like i have 3 different phones in 1 lmao
Stock is getting better but still a little boring for me

They did - dated 23 May (downloading it as I type this) - and it's not based on crosshatch, either.
