AT&T F*CKED me in the store yesterday... Did an Eligibility Swap with the wife, which they said would not affect our voice or data plans yet they deleted and re-added all of our features, which of course took away my grandfathered MEdia Net.

So before I start screaming until I'm blue in the face, is there any way to get the plan back? I believe the answer is no... So I'll at least pursue getting a discount in order to reduce the immediate monetary effect of the unauthorized change.

I feel this is yet another example of A&T reps removing/adding features to get compensation.

BTW, I argued with them for 15 minutes in the store about what they had done, but they insisted that the data plan they put me on was the same thing, different name. Of course I knew different, and within hours got my text message.

Awesome.. Just looked at the OLAM, I of course got switched to the DataPro 200M package, and I see zero other options. F*ck you AT*T.

Note: AT&T is telling me they will twiddle ALL of your lines if you're changing any of them. Love that. I should have copied the online chat I just had but I got pissed off and closed it. Basically they said during any upgrade or line add, they'll adjust all features on all lines.
that is complete bullsh#t. i bet the only reason they did that is to get the comission on all the features from all your lines. i would call up and raise hell, but be polite, and explain you want your grandfathered features back.

I hate to say it but you are absolutely 100% correct. It's called feature flipping. And it is EXTREMELY commonplace on the retail level of AT&T (you have a better shot at finding a store that will do it than one that won't do it). Trust me, I know with certainty.

It's a horrible thing. And if the old feature that was removed is no longer available, it becomes a dreaded nightmare trying to get it back.

oh yeah i heard all about feature flipping. that rep just racked up a bunch of comission for all your lines and all associated features, just for doing absolutely nothing. it makes him look like he sold you on the newest features for all your lines, and he gets paid more money because of it.

the ass kicker is the feature is no longer available, so you will have to escalate it high up to maybe get it put back.

i cant strees this enough, this is why i have not even walked into an ATT store in over 4 years. i havent upgraded any phones, havent upgraded any plans or features (except myself online), havent even SPOKEN to any att people. i just buy my unlocked phones online and pop in my sim card. avoid att like the plague is my motto.

hell my account is still a philly account, and i moved to california 5 years ago!

Well, I've been waiting a bit to follow up on this.. Murphy's law and all.. And hopefully Murphy doesn't get my "new number" so to speak.....

I called about this the next day and spoke to an extremely nice CSR and she went through about 6 different people until she said these beautiful words: "Is the Media Max 200 Bundle the package you want us to restore to your account?"

After I climbed back into my chair, I said yes, and a bit later, it was done. And so far it's stuck. I was really afraid that it'd immediately get automatically switched back, but it's been a while and no problems so far. OLAM looks really weird, it doesn't show a data package at all (not even options for one!) but in my "Full Features" list, it shows my MEdia Max 200 Bundle, and in my Data usage, it shows XXXMB of UNLIMITED, MEMAX 200 or such... All looks good, just a bit weird in the "Features" section.

Hopefully my next post isn't "Arrrggggghhhh it switched back" or "Arrrggghhh $14,000 data bill".

<-- Grandfathered Media Works Plan (1500 SMS, 200 MMS, Unlimited Data) $20/month. It's been that way for 7 or so years now, and I'm out of contract.
AT&T will never change my rate plan :)
If they do, Hello Verizon and the Droid X :)

As of right now, my account still says unlimited
Yep, and I thought the same thing until the story I quoted... Went into the store to upgrade my wifes line and they feature-flipped.

That was your mistake. Never ever touch anything on your account once you have it. AT&T will always screw it up :(
this is why you just buy your phone outright and swap the sim into it... upgrades are great for those who are already ****** into their newer plans but if you want to grandfather old features you never want to do anything through the actual phone retail store

When I go into an AT&T store I refuse to give them ANY information. I run with the assumption that they want to remove ANYTHING good from my account just to make me sad.

Simple rule to follow with AT&T, if you have something on your account that they no longer offer to everyone RIGHT NOW, they want to remove it from your account ASAP. ALWAYS remember that.

I agree with you that no information should be given to them. But when it comes to the retail reps, they could care less what you have on your account. They are not out to remove grandfathered features. All it comes down to is them wanting to flip your features in order to get credit/commission for it. And in doing so, many of them aren't knowledgeable enough to realize that they are actually changing the service that you are getting so they do it anyways. They do the same thing whether it is an active feature or grandfathered.

After reading the above I believe I can do this, but confirmation would be nice.

So today I got the dreaded text message that for my convenience I was upgraded to a smartphone data plan from my dumbphone one. My sister has an iphone that has the unlimited data plan. I called AT&T asking to switch our data plans so she has the 200 MB smartphone plan and I have the unlimited smartphone plan. They told me they can't switch the plan as it is no longer supported. But If I were to switch sim cards with her, other than changing phone numbers, would this solve our problems? Will I be kicked off the plan when it realizes I am not an iPhone, as they call it the "iPhone data plan." I assume so as I know many of you have switched from iphones just by moving the sim card.

Thanks for any help.
