Looks like the Sensation is going back

Being a SGS owner I really hope you're not saying the Sensation is as, or even more, laggy than a single core Galaxy S. That would be a huge disappointment.
So you know, I came from a Nexus One running the latest Cyanogenmod. The Sensation BLOWS IT AWAY in terms of UI smoothness. I'm not using the Sense homescreen (always loved Launcher Pro), but I can imagine it might slow down a bit with all the 3D effects?

That is because he is comparing it to an SGS running AOSP Gingerbread which is completely tweaked in every way to optimize the ROM. Apples and oranges, apples and oranges. Imagine this phone with CM7 on it (which is what I'm sure his SGS is running). Can you say Sensation = M3, SGS = scooter?

Sucks it's not working out, but how you like a phone is ALL relative to what YOU like and feel about it.
For the record, The SGS is running stock Samsung Gingerbread ROM (JPO I think).

It does feel faster and smoother, but I certainly the experience is not better, I'm not in any way a fan of touchwiz.

These two dual cores (sgs2 and sensation) are the phones I'm looking at. Neither is perfect. Both have flaws. It sucks. Lol. I'm going to go with the one with the best battery life. :)

I'm not a fan of animation or 3D effects, so will turn as much of that off as possible. I'll remain optimistic for now, and give it a good test when I can get my hands on it. Thanks.

its not slower as DHD is, in the UI .... its just the typically sense lag thing

sometimes its pretty fast , sometimes with a little cpu load it gets laggy a bit ....

but opening the appdrawer is laggy ... its like 3 or four frames ... not smooth at all...

typically sense too much eyecandy lag ;)

I've just opened and closed it about 10 or so times and I don't actually think it's lag. It looks to me as if it's...meant to be like that? It opens up about 90%, then does two bumps to about 95% and 100% open. It's the same every time...

Hit the home button and it scrolls closed fine. I think that's just an animation that hasn't been done to the same as the other for some reason. I'm going to sit here on my blue chair and happily say, "that's not lag."

Other than that however I don't really see anythint that's lagging at the moment. The browser is a bit bumpy at times, but my finger never gets missed when I swipe across the screen... and as a HTC Hero owner who had it during the 1.5 days I know full well what will happen when a decent update comes around that works well with the phone! 1.5 was HORRIBLE, then 2.1 completely changed it.

sorry, but "meant to be like that"??then htc has no clue of a satisfying user experience..my only hope is that android ice cream provides the possibility of hardware accelerated UI (browser, app drawer, etc) and htc makes use of it..its really annoying to see an iphone (hell, I hate iDevices) smooth as hell and android devices stuttering/lagging..dont get me wrong, I love android but its still annoying that such little things degrade the whole user experience..

I agree the app drawer animation is b/s. I know the MT4G has a Tmobile version of Sense, but the app drawer on it was actually one of my key agitations. it's amazing how something so simple can scrape at your brain until you want to throw the thing at the wall.

I don't understand what's wrong with the default 2.+ android drawer. I love the way the Icons flow in. What I think happened here is they just skinned the Android 1.5 app drawer, and then just left it on all new versions, overlooking the need to update it...

I'm going to try REAL hard not to get annoyed by the app drawer when I get the sensation on the 8th. Already returned the mt4g and the g2x, just can't seem to replace my Nexus One.

Where it rains alot
The HTC HD2 handset initially had a mp3 tag issue with it only recognising certain versions. I found the fix for Vodafone at the time. That handset sunk without a trace didn't it. ;) Tiz only the beginning of it's life, it will get rooted and new life will be breathed into it. I'd say in about 12 months.

I have zero need for animations. Do you have them all turned off and it's still doing this? I'll have to see it to tell if I can live with it or not. If it's limited to the app drawer probably not huge, since I go in there rarely. If it shows up on button presses, or randomly on various transitions, and really is lag, after suffering so with the SGS, I may well have to pass.

But I also really need the GPS to be rock solid. The SGS2 seems a bit hit or miss on that score, and no one seems to be using it on the Sensation. So a few things up in the air at this point.

No perfect phones yet. Don't know if I'll live that long...

Aplogies, I read stock and SAW AOSP, my bad.

I've always noticed that Sense is laggy. But maybe its not laggy persay, and more choppy? Meaning the its not that the phone can't keep up, it's more designed that way? I don't know. Current device is the myTouch 4G (Glacier). I've had 2.3.4 with Sense 3.0 on it but I'm not sure I like it. I think I like 2.3.4 with Sense 2.1 the best. None of that 3D crap with all the benefits of Sense. Runs smoother too. They've even got the 3.0 Lock screen, Weather and 3.0 SMS working on it which as far as I can tell are the ONLY real benefits of Sense 3.0.

Either way, I'm waiting till this thing is rooted so I can run all my apps. I would be lost without Root Explorer, Ad Free and Titanium Backup! Plus I would like to see Sense 2.1 ported.

It isn't, I promise you. The original SGS was a disaster. The Sensation seems to me, to be pretty damn good. I have yet to see any of these problems that the OP mentioned.

My suggestion is a replacement phone!

Got my HTC sensation the day of release last Friday. I am over all very impressed , coming from a hero , desire Hd then a iPhone 4 this is by far the best.
It can be a little bit laggy at times due to all the 3d animation , but home screen replacements etc as people have said will solve this.

I will write up a full detailed review this evening as a new thread comparing it with other handsets.

Thanks

Jordan

Woov. "..but HTC's software is terrible"

I'm really suprised to see that comment for an HTC phone. HTC's good at software. At least that's how they're known in many years.

Sorry but these little issues could happen on first units. I'm sure HTC's gonna fix these issues wiith updates. Right now you can use different music player and home launcher. Hope you can solve them.
When I buy one of the first production models of a car, I do not expect to need replacing parts from another car models, while waiting for the manufacturer to fix my car. Also, I don't expect it to suddenly stop and restart the motor while driving.

If we the customers agree with this, manufacturers will continue polishing the car painting for new models (e.g. a new Sense interface) while the thing essential features do not work properly, many times not only for early adopters (somebody suggested a cooked ROM in the long term as a fix for all of the problems).

No, it is not acceptable the current situation of most of the new Android devices.

The sense UI is a tad laggy. But I'm using ADW launcher ex and it makes it a lot better!

Sent from my HTC Sensation :)
But that's one of the main selling points to get the sensation. It's ui. It came out for Vodafone Spain this week and I'm not too impressed.
