Loss of Auto-Rotate

Some of you may have seen (on the Devs page) that I recently lost auto-rotate and all my sensors. I did get them back - see how here.

What I would like to know is, WHY did I lose all my sensors. Does it happen often? Can I prevent it happening again?

Any help, as usual, will be greatly appreciated.
