Lower latch phone housing replacement

Hello XDA,

after possessing my beloved Desire HD for a little more than 3 days, I almost broke the lower phone housing latch that gives acces to the SIM-card and the Micro SD memory card.

Pics:

I gave HTC Netherlands a call only to hear the lady say that the "escalation" department was really busy. She didn't know whether I will get sent a new latch or not, nor when I receive an e-mail regarding this issue.

Do you guys have any idea when we will be able to order seperate phone housing parts? I am sure many people will either damage or lose the lower or side latch when the availability of this phone gets better.

There are now two reported cases of broken (lower/side) latches, including mine. Other case reported on a Dutch board regarding the Desire HD.

These plastic covers are poor for a flagship phone. HTC really should have made them from metal. Mine doesn't quiet close fully, and i can see inside the phone through the small gap.

I hope some third party company sees a market for metal ones and makes them.

i got a phone today with a different fault and its being replaced but one thing i did notice, when i unboxed the phone i looked at the sim cover for the gap that had been reported and it wasn't there.Yet as soon as i removed the sim cover then tried to put it back on the gap was there no matter how i tried to fit it and the middle part of the sim cover wasnt flush with the rest of the device it was slighty raised.

may be people getting phones on monday could check this out, also think this thread will get more replies if moved to the general section

I had the same issue too but after removing and fiddling a bit it's now flush. You just have to make sure the notches along the top edge line up correclty with the case.

I do hope someone makes a 3rd party cover which fits better and feels more secure. I'm too scared to grip the phone as tight as I'd like around the bottom for fear of the cover popping off :)

A 3rd part covers for the battery and sim card covers would be nice in cool colours to customise the phone on the outside :)

Managed to bend mine while trying to get the sim card in. Now it has a little link by the headphone and usb sockets.

It's minor but a replacement would be nice.

Not a good design. If you break them, the phone will be useless as the plastic cover contains the gsm antenna.

Sim covers are being sent out of Thailand as we speak. I got this info from HTC NL, so I don't know whats up with UK.

Glad to receive my new cover soon :).

Same here - damaged lower sim card/memory slot cover

Hi,

I partially slid mine into a case - the sim card/memory card cover popped off and looks almost exactly like the damaged one at the beginning of this thread.

Looks like any pinching pressure can cause this damage - and this wasn't a lot, either.

Very annoyed, as otherwise, I think this phone is perfect.

I did the exact same. Straight out of the box, removed the cover to put the sim in and crack, right down it.

Is this something that should be replaced by HTC as a part not fit for purpose or will it be a case of needing to buy a new cover?

I'm gutted as apart from that the phone has been great.

This is ridiculous, the pics here are identical to how my cover looks too, kinked and cracked!
Anyway Im not sending it back now, but if theres a replacement I'll buy one, even better would be an alloy replacement thats more ridged fit and stronger.

What the hell ??
This is a deal breaker !
Is there anyone here who DIDN'T break the damn thing ?

Those with the broken pieces - Please state your batch, first or second batch of DHD's ?

Mine is fine, it's definitely a tricky removal, but once the SIM card is in, there's really no reason to remove it, except of course if you're swapping SD cards, but as the hunter always says... "softly, softly catch the monkey" or something like that!

Well...

...I'd totally agree with you except my latch cover came off when putting it into a snug case -if you pinch the cover by seams on both sides, you'll see the middle flex upwards.

When I put mine in the case, the pressure was enough to cause the latch to detach and bend, resulting in the damage.

I'm pretty annoyed as otherwise the phone is great so far.

It's not so much about there being a reason to remove it the fact is you should be able to remove it without it splitting in half how ever many time you like. Mine isnt broke but I cant seem to get a snug fit there is a 1mm gap. I mean I have never had a phone which I couldnt take the cover off without it splitting in my life this seems like very poor build quality/design.

My feedback from htc UK so far has been to try and send it back to where I bought it from and get a new unit. Which is less than ideal as I bought it online from t-mobile, so won't be able to pop into store for a direct swap. Also, apparently putting a repair ticket in via htc themselves will void the rest of the warranty.

I've just had the same feedback. They are claiming no one else has had the same issue and they will not replace the cover under warranty.
