Win 10, ZVC, Lollipop 5.0.1 --> finally, it worked
Finally, it worked on ZVC (LS990ZVC, lge/g3_spr_us/g3:5.0.1/LRX21Y).
I'd tried ioroot, and one-click. Ioroot didn't have the LS990. One-click asks for your email address, and after you supply it, demands $29.95 (or $39.95?).
The LG Root Script has some issues, initially. The batch file says:
- It works for ZVA and ZVB, with no mention of ZVC.
- To enable Diag mode, but what is that? Some Internet research says that to enable Diag mode, you must have a rooted device. That makes no sense. After searching in Win 10 Device Manager for a way to enable Diag, I ended up ignoring the batch file on this point.
I tried it, anyway, and it began to look promising, when it successfully pushed 5 files to the phone.
It kept hanging, though, while trying to find the serial port. I'd wait patiently, and eventually it'd say:
Disconnect the USB cable and turn off the phone.
Then press and hold the Volume Up button, and while you're doing that connect the USB cable again.
OK... So, I did that, and it would flash an SU (?) error code of 1003, before directing NOT to disconnect the cable while it downloaded files (or uploaded?). That screen would never change, from 0% downloaded. Why?
Eventually, I found MinceMan's suggestion on page 4 of this thread, to use USB charging mode, and not MTP. That seemed counterintuitive, but ok. You can change that in Android Settings, Storage, and tap on the icon at the top, right.
This didn't seem to help (at first). The results were the same: all of the above issues, culminating in 0% downloading (or uploading, or whatever).
Some other messages along the way:
Phone found at COM3!
Installing LAF this might take a minute or two...

Rebooting...
Looking for LG serial port...
The above messages occurred both in the 3 or 4 times when it didn't root, and finally when it did.
At one point, right before it finally worked, I had to ignore the message saying not to disconnect the USB cable. The phone was stuck on that 0% downloaded message, though. I was forced to remove the battery to reboot. Boy, was I worried that a bricked phone was in my future!

But it came back up fine, and I tried the LG Root batch file yet again, and this time it finally worked. I'm not really sure what the difference was, but it was the 2nd try after I switched from USB-MTP and into USB-Charge, and the 1st try after the battery removal.
It's a long post, but hopefully it helps someone. Be persistent, but make a backup first (!), then download and install LG drivers, turn on USB debugging, and switch Storage to USB-charge.
