I can vouch for solarnz technique. Thought I had bricked too, but you just have to keep trying to reboot until you get the timing right. Also you could try booting up with a Ubuntu boot CD and see if it can detect the Xoom. I do my flashing and rooting with Ubuntu. Good luck...
I bricked my Xoom a while back by doing the same thing as xdaman85. This thread has given me some hope that my Xoom might be salvageable; living in Australia, the idea of sending it to the States is not one I would like to entertain.

I'm going to try and see if Ubuntu can see the Xoom. If that fails, I guess I’ll buy the Factory cable (or try and make one).

I'll report back on how everything goes.

Thanks all

I have tried other electronic shops and they wont make me the cable, I've got a soldering iron at home but from what I remember I was really bad at soldering so I'm not going to attempt and make a cable myself.

I'm installing a fresh version of the Android SDK on another computer, I've installed the drivers already and the Java JDK, so will let you lot know how that goes. :( I'm not too optimistic though.

Didn't work on a another computer either :(

Anyone want to borrow/sell me their factory cable? :D

If not I have no choice but to send it back to Moto and pay what ever they ask :(

It's a bit surreal when you offer a solution that costs all of $6, only to be blithely ignored. Meanwhile, the kvetching and beseeching goes on about one's sad fate.

I'm thinking, it's probably a language thing, may be dude doesn't understand Anglais all that well. Then again, dude's location sez UK, so may be the Queen's English has devolved as of late.

Hey, kannst du Deutsch? Else, có nói tiếng Việt được không? :)

But yes, I think you should definitely send it back to Moto. Your problem is way beyond our help. ;)

I don't think the breakout box will work anyway. Pin 4 needs to be high, and normal USB A to micro B cables will have it pulled to ground even if it's not "empty". Wiring pin 4 high needs to be done in the cable -- the USB A to micro B cable isn't 1-to-1, obviously.

Oops, you're right! The breakout board needs to be at the micro-B end, not the USB-A end.

Redo. Get these two:

http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10031 (USB Micro-B Plug Breakout Board) USD$4

http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9966 (USB Mini-B Plug Breakout Board) USD$2

Have along a regular USB-A male to mini-B male cable, some jumper wire, and a soldering iron (sorry! but it's really easy!). You know the deal, pin 1 (mini) to 1 & 4 (micro), 2/3/5 are straight-through.

Final cost: still $6! (plus shipping)

There are acouple of guides to make a otg cable.. its practically the same. Instead of grounding pin 4 just connect it to pin 1(+5v). And if you cant make one i think i got the spare parts to make one.

Hey everyone - i tried to see if Ubuntu could see the xoom, and I believe it can. I could browse a 4 gig partition. Not sure if that means anything, as I have no idea about Linux.

Xdaman85, have you tried seeing if Ubuntu can see the xoom? Hope this might help =]

Firstly I just want to thank everyone for their input, if it wasn't for you lot I wouldn't have been able to get this far.

I managed to make a factory cable using the cable from my Motorola Flipout.

I plugged it in, and what do you know the PC detected the Xoom and Installed some drivers :). I then flashed the stock European WiFi image, all went well but now my device doesn't go beyond "Starting RSD mode 2", At least I've made some progress. Before it was on RSD mode 3 now it's on RSD mode 2. Main thing is the PC detects it, just not sure why it wont go beyond "Starting RSD mode 2" now, I done everything right as far as I assume.

As always I appreciate everyone's help and thank you for helping me get this far :).

The problem might be that I flashed the Build H.6.2-24 for Retail Europe as I can't find a build for the UK, but I think I read somewhere the Build H.6.2-24 for Retail Other International includes the UK, so I'll give that a try and get back to you lot.

Huray! We are all happy for you.

Now that you are an expert at this, maybe you could write a tutorial? :)

Trust me that diagram for "Active Power USB A Male to Micro B Male" is more then enough information, there's no need for a tutorial lol

My soldering skills are very bad so I had to use black electric tape on the Micro USB end to stop it all from falling apart.

i am glad you finally fixed it.. welcome back to the land of the living :D
Lol yeh now I can enjoy playing with my Xoom again, I was using my Galaxy S2 all this time, but nothing beats a bigger screen for watching movies and browsing the web.

And now you have the cable for the next time you brick it ;)

What did you do to get past your second blocker (mode 2)?
Yes, please let us know what you did. I had a scare myself today...resulting from incompatible busybox update. Managed to make it back to android recovery and reflashed my nandroid backup but I saw that RSD Mode 3 and started freaking when my PC couldn't see the Xoom. I just kept pressing up,down/power til something worked. I think I will order that developer's cable now. It's just not worth this stress.

I just made a Factory Cable, just-in-case. Figured it would be a lot easier if I wasn't under the stress of a bricked Xoom.

I also second okantomi's request. Most of us have never used RSD lite, nor had to try to "wake " a bricked device. Anything you can share with us, XDAman85 will be much appreciated.
