On Windows Phone, hit the ...

and press tabs.

Have you actually ever used a windows phone?

To add more to item 15, besides bing maps, Nokia has Nokia drive and HTC has HTC locations which DOES turn by turn voice for free without tapping. Not part of the O/S but provided by the oem so i'm not sure how you would class it. The OEM'S also give you multiple free apps... htc for example has Dock mode, Connections, Locations, Flashlight, and more. Apple only provides what is in the O/S and no free extra apps.

Facetime is not an advantage when you have Skype and Tango that can do the same across multiple platforms even using 3g for free.
I guess I misworded that. When you open a new tab in WP7, you automatically go to that tab.

In Safari, you get to choose whether to remain in your current tab or go to the one you just opened.

Being forced to go to the new tab is really annoying when browsing the forums and opening multiple topics in different tabs.

all the good browsers (now) allow "open in background tab" functionality that people enjoy. it shouldn't be a hard thing to implement the choice for wp's browser, just WHEN will it finally happen. things change very very slowly here.

Sadly, HTC Locations is not free. You can just use it for 30 days for free then you have to chose a subscription or buy a complete map of a country.
That kind of bites. I tried googling to find prices, but have have not found them. Do you have a link to map prices? I'd like to include it in the list.
After much googling, it looks like in the U.S.A. unlimited is $30.00
But tha tis just from people's comments, not official from HTC

Sadly it's inaccurate or incomplete information.

HTC Locations IS FREE. Only offline mode beyond 30 days isn't free. You can use the online navigation for as long as you like. However, I have over 2 weeks left to find out if I'm wrong.

I've update item 15 to read:

15. Turn By Tap directions. Although you need to tap, it will recalculate if you deviate from the route after a tap.
Some OEMs such as HTC and Nokia provide applications built in to do tap free Turn by Turn directions. With the iPhone a 3rd party not built in app is always required to accomplish this.
Both HTC Locations and Nokia's app also provide offline navigation.
HTC Locations offline mode is free for 30 days, but Nokia's app is free with a Nokia phone.
HTC Locations online mode may be free after the 30 days. Someone that is using it for more than 30 days or can no longer use it after 30 days, please post so I can update this.

Are you sure HTC Locations isn't free? When i go into the marketplace it says free with no option to buy. event in the legal section it only states that it uses bing maps.

According to this...
http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...-free-offline-voice-guided-navigation_id28567

ok - did some more searching under get more there is a worldwide expiration date. Mine isn't for 2 more weeks still. When i click on the get more in there it takes me to the maps. I wonder if it's for offline mode only. I'll post back after the 29th when i can test it.

In internet explored 9 on windows 7, tab is in the foreground. it seems to make more sense to me that way as i want to go back to the previous page, but read my more current tab 1st. (if that makes sense to you) What is the advantage of having it come up in the background? (unless you have slow internet and it takes that page a while to come up... only advantage i can think of)

Another advantage to it is to open several tabs in the background while reading a page that contains many links to referenced information. That way you can continue reading the article and then read the linked info after and it will be fully loaded.

Mango advantages

I added some additional details to the existing list and also added 2.

30. Ability to snooze an appointment. With the iPhone, if you have a meeting scheduled for 2:00 PM and are set to be reminded 15 minutes before, you will get notified at 1:45 PM. But there is not way to snooze for 10 minutes and get notified again at 1:55 PM.

31. Rescheduled appointments from Exchange work properly. The iPhone asks if you want to rescheule the meeting or all meetings, even though the original rescheduler defined this when rescheduling.

Those 2 issues bother me frequently, because I was a Windows Mobile user before I was a Windows Phone user. Both supported that.

After being forced into an iPhone, I no longer have this. Meetings are frequently rescheduled and I always want to be reminded 5 minutes before and 15 minutes before. I used to always snooze 10 minutes.

Interesting... i didn't know the meeting one. That would annoy the heck out of me as you would be forced into the time that the scheduler set for the reminder. Sometimes people don't set it an take the auto 15 min. Some things i have to set projectors and such up and i have to be there 1/2 hour before and if i'm busy i will snooze it for 5. Can you at least adjust the reminder time? Those issues alone would frustrate me if i didn't have a windows phone because of my job.

The following points are actually more of a disadvantage to WP7 than advantages of an iPhone as I see them more as crucial basic functions.

The first one is that wp7 does not have rotation lock. Very annoying when I try to browse while lying in bed.

Second is that wp7 does not have fast scrolling. On iOS, when you flick the screen a few times, the scrolling momentum goes faster and faster. This makes reaching the bottom of the page easier. Also, by touching the status bar, the screen jumps back to the top. WP7 does not have this and is really annoying when browsing long pages.

Also there is no unified color scheme for the bg in WP7. You can choose between a black or white background. But for some reason, when I choose black, my mail app and office app is always white. I find this quite annoying as it is quite bright at night.

While we are talking about brightness... WP7 has limited brightness setting. on iOS you can set the brightness to whatever you want. WP7 only has 3 options (low, med, high). The problem is that at night, the low brightness is still too bright.

Your 3rd point applies to iOS as well. e.g. the game center UI is always green, the iBooks (or whetever it's called) is always brown, whicle the settings are white/light blue.

Also, push email doesn't work for Yahoo mail accounts on WP7. I'm pretty sure it works on iOS so I think this is another advantage for iOS.

The biggest pro for me is that both my 4S and Lumia 900 are snappy and very stable/consistence. Can't say the same for Galaxy S2 and my other Android phones.

If someone using iOS and yahoo mail can confirm that push email works for their yahoo account on iOS, I will add this to iPhone advantages. However, if someone using Mango can get push email to work for Yahoo, then I won't. I'll wait a couple days for resonses before updating.

Thread is not about Android. Even if it is a positive for both iPhone and Windows Phone 7, the thread is not a comparison to Android. I don't want to open it up to any other comparisons with Android.

With my iPhone, I have the issue where it rotates while reading things in bed. It is annoying since you want it to lock since your head is sideways. If you can post how to lock it with the iPhone, I'll add it as an advantage. Unless someone posts how to do it with Mango.

I thought Windows 7 had fast scrolling. Someone please confirm or deny.

As far as brighness. I will add that the iPhone has more brightness settings than Mango and does dim lighter than Mango's low setting.

Mango advantage

reading emails on my iPhone is very annoying.

The words are often way too small. Zooming in makes the works bigger, but the lines don't auto wrap, so I need to contanstly scroll left to right.

If there is a way to make emails more readable, with iOS, please post.

If I recall correctly, Mango automatically adjustst the emails. If this is not true, please post. I plan to check this tomorrow.

Push IM/Email

Hi...

Nice thread dude, very clean and nice :)

I want to move from Android to (I don't know yet)

So I was wondering if one of them work as BlackBerry push email (real push email not poll) and also FB, FB Chat, Twitter... (People Hub). I mean, not fetching data like every 15 minutes or so to keep connection alive (saves battery)

Thanks!!!
