That is incorrect. IOS 6 is in beta release, just as Windows 8 has developer and consumer previews. I have used iOS 6, therefore it DOES, rather than WILL DO.

Still beta as you cannot buy a Iphone with ios6 yet just as you cannot buy a windows phone 7.8 or 8 yet

Windows phone 8 has bitlocker encryption... betting iOS 6 doesn't... see my point?

And i'm sure Siri worked great before 100 million users were on it. Also i could compare it to the iphone 4 - not 4s... oh wait ios6 won't have siri on and iphone 4 or 3GS.

They could also decide siri is taking to much bandwidth or has to many issues in the beta and drop it, hence it's beta. Post it when it's released.

Oh and windows 8 developer and consumer previews is not Windows Phone 8. Only MS has those beta's and some select OEMS hence we know none of the consumer improvements and very little of the developer.

What I like about Mango is being able to swipe so much. Swiping really feels so much nicer than tapping! It's also way faster.
I know this is OT, but if you like swiping you should try out Meego. I got the n9 when I needed tethering. I love the swipe interface so much that it's actually now my phone of choice over my Lumia 800, despite my Lumia having more of the functionality I prefer.

correct the title....mango is an update for the windows phone 7 OS...iphone 4s is just a phone...
I also thought this when I saw the post. You can't really compare an OS to a phone? :S I think you (thread starter) mean Mango vs iOS :)

Why are you comparing a Phone OS to a PC OS? I'm pretty sure that iOS lacks features which Microsoft are going to provide with Windows Phone 8

iOS on the iPhone 4S is different than iOS on an iPhone 4

iOS on the iPhone 4S is different than iOS on an iPhone 4.

I am comparing Mango on cell phones, with iOS on an iPhone 4S. I specify the iPhone 4S because features such as Siri are not on the iPhone 4 even though it is the same version of iOS.

Although with the news on 6/20/2012 I am seeing less value to adding more to this thread. Fall is not that far away and Windows Phone 8 addresses so many of the complaints that people have with Windows Phone 7. Unless you need a new phone right now and you want a Windows Phone, I would wait until Windows Phone 8. Even if you need a new one right now, I would try to stay out of contract and just buy a used phone. Then get a phone with Windows Phone 8 when it is released.

The fact that new software targeting Windows Phone 8 will not run on Windows Phone 7 is an issue, since most people like apps. I suspect that most apps already released will continue having future updates targetting Mango, unless there is a strong reason to switch and target the Windows RT. But, there will be new apps that target Windows RT and some existing ones will be switched so that they can take work around restrictions that were in place for Mango developers. It may be that Windows Phone 7.8 that is going to be pushed onto Mango phones will support some of these new apps. But, there are no promises, and it was said that they won't.

A diffenence in the approach that Apple has taken is that apps written for iOS for the iPhone 4S run on iOS for the iPhone 4.

It's really unfortunate that the planned update for Mango phones does not include the full OS.

But, maybe some of the real geniuses on XDA will start making custom Windows Phone 8 ROMs for things like the Lumia 900.

Aside from why I called the thread title what it is, most of this is off topic, but I included it more for a reason why I am seeing less of a need to update it.

If someone wants to post comments on the Windows Phone 8 vs 7.8 upgrade, support for old devices, etc, feel free to post a link here, but I'd like the discussion of those side topics to be in another thread.
