Can update from stock recovery - choose update file from sd?
If you have firmware TOS373J,you can update via adb sideload or cd card.

I personally don't recommend upgrading to android 8.1.0 because there are some bugs. But if you still want to update, you need to install the firmware TOS373J. I can help you if you want. And Yes, about English, don't worry, myself with a translator : )

If you do this with an unlocked bootloader, does it trip dm-verity between reboots from stock recovery and updated ROM?
The dm-verity message does not appear if it was not present.
