The issue I'm facing is whenever I try to copy or paste a file/folder to my external HDD, I get an error "Unable to create the directory in...".
But, I'm able to copy content from my HDD to my Phone(Android device running Marshmallow). I'm also able to read every file. Not sure why moving files from phone to external HDD is causing a problem.
I'm attaching some screenshots for you to understand better.

Please help!

1, have you granted root? You need it to write to SD card in most cases, try using a different file explorer, "Root Explorer" works a treat on MM Roms running supersu systemless root. 2, have you tried doing the same in recovery? Assuming you have a custom recovery.
Yes, I have root access(SuperSU 2.76) and TWRP 3.0.2-0 as well. I've granted root access and as far as I remember, I also had this problem with ES File Explorer. I haven't tried it on recovery though, will catch on it if Root Explorer doesn't work.

+1 on Root Explorer, it should achieve that without issues.

Will try Root Explorer and report back.

Thanks for your help guys!

Wow! Root Explorer is one fine thing. I got it working. Actually it was originally mounted as r/o and no other file manager has that option to change it to r/w, but Root Explorer. I can finally move files seamlessly.

Conclusion- Root Explorer is the best for such stuff.
