Agreed, I've come to learn how risky it is. This was an eBay purchase, and there was no mention of the MDM lock/enterprise ownership in the listing. Fortunately it was a reputable seller with a good return policy, they immediately contacted the previous corporate owner and the MDM lock was removed remotely.

Once I reset the device, the lock was gone and bootloader unlock option was no longer greyed out in developer options. Just unlocked the bl with no issues. Got lucky.

Nice. First thing I would do if I were you is use the Android Flash Tool to flash the latest factory release. Force flash all partitions and wipe data. You don't want any remnants of the MDM left.

If you intend on rooting, don't forget to check DIsable Verity and Disable Verification as well.

Yes, contact the original owner of the device and request the MDM be removed. There is no way to remove it otherwise.

Please read this thread. If you buy an enterprise device, it will likely have an MDM app baked into the firmware that you cannot remove without root; unfortunately, root is not possible without unlocking the bootloader, and unlocking the bootloader is not possible if OEM unlocking is not allowed in the ROM.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was done via an app installation after the fact. I didn't know that they were sold with one already embedded. I may be getting a work phone from my employer in the near future. I'd be curious to know how that one is set up.

There is not perfect solution. You have to turn off phone permission from Google Play Services, but Google Pay wont work. Its for Android 12 MDM.

Carrier lock and MDM lock are two completely different things that have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

Carrier lock means the device is locked to that particular carrier's network and cannot be used on any other network - for example, if the device was purchased under contract and is not paid off.

MDM (Mobile Device Management) is employed by enterprise IT to maintain device security and prevent unauthorized use.

A carrier cannot defeat MDM, nor can an enterprise owner unlock a device to be used on another network; most enterprises negotiate a service contract with a carrier to provide an exclusive mobile solution, which may or may not include the devices. I believe most larger enterprises generally purchase unlocked phones, then contract with a carrier for mobile service. The MDM lock may indeed prevent switching SIMs to use the device on a different network.

I know that I am phone reseller and had more than 1000 pixel phones and I know what is mdm and what is carrier lock but somehow with carrier unlock method you can bypass mdm lock on google pixel 5 on android 11. I have one and it works so

My phone with mdm was working good with "verizon cell unlock" method (via adb) on Android 11.
For Android 12 that method is not working
I searching for another solution.

Now I removed com.android.vending (play market). Without play market device working well, but...no market.

I have one question phone unlocked via such method locked again after update or you also made factory reset?

I don't see how that is possible, but I've been wrong before.
