It might be a size issue ("That's what she said!").

Some boxes won't see a stick over 16 or 32 gig.
Try a 4G stick, FAT32 format. If that works then you know it's a size issue.. if not then it might be a faulty USB port.

I've used a 32GB usb drive on my Mi Box (newest 4K one) many times without issue. In both file manager and kodi. Might be his drive.

Good to know - that's the size issue out of the way.

What's left?

Format? - surely it'd undertsand fat32 and ntfs - what about exfat? I've had a few large drives come pre-formatted to exfat.

Corrupted? - it happens, a flash drive gets all wriggly inside, even if it works on one device it won't on another. I had a tablet that kept on corrupting drives, they worked fine on the tab but when you bunged them into a laptop it wanted to format them (and no files were available)... put it back in the tab and you could read it again.

Usb port itself? That happens too, even on new things

Answers - in order of the above:
1 - check the format, make it fat32 or ntfs (if you can without losing anything on it)
2 - run a cmd prompt chkdsk /x F: (where F: is the flash drive letter on yiour laptop/computer)
3 - try anotehr flahs drive or two in that port.

Results:
1 - try the reformatted drive - if it works than it was either corrupted or bad format (the reformat also fixes or maps out the corrupted spots)
2 - if chkdsk shows any errors, try the drive again, maybe do #1 as well (reformat), id no errors than it not this problem.
3 - if other flash drives fail then it is the port; if they work fine then it's that specific drive.

It's all a matter of testing and crossing off specific probables until you hit the solution. :good:

I should have mentioned the 32GB I use most often is FAT32 because it works in the most places (Windows, Linux/Android).

Does that stop flash drive access?

Wow... I learn something still everyday.. I guess when we stop learning something it's time to die.

Hi, now I can see the usb but I cannot see the files in MX player. The USB is ok because I can see it in VLC but not in MX. Any alternative to MX that I can play AC3 video files? In VLC the files with AC3 are muted.

Thank you!
