I have been absolutely disgusted with Xiaomi as of late. I recently decided to give Xiaomi a chance due to the value of their products.
I got the MiBand4 and a couple weeks later, they remove custom watchface support from the already crappy app. I was really irritated.

I purchased the MiTV 3 and MiTV 3S. The MiTv3 had horrible power problems after they broke it after the 8.1 update. It would not power on with the remote and had to be unplugged to work.
The 3S was better, but had performance issues.

I was looking for a tablet and the MiPad 4 looked like a great value with decent specs that wasn't released too long ago and it's already dropped support for it?
I won't ever buy another Xiaomi product again. Their hardware is fine, but their firmware support is horrible.

So.. I spent last 6 hours trying to get MIUI 11 to work with Arters vendor and kernel but no luck. (You can see results in the pictures below). No idea why his vendor has so many issues. He also doesn't give permission in his post for others to modify his work so I can't add my stuff to his vendor. And I tried also making my own vendor but no matter what I do, my vendor doesn't even boot at all. Which is extremely weird as I used same method that I used before for OP6, MiPad, RN7 etc. This PC is also very slow and freezes all the time so working on it takes ages.

I'll try to boot MIUI 11 on Oreo vendor somehow but Idk. We'll see.

Edit: no luck with Oreo vendor. And other 8.1 devices that have MIUI 11. Are either MTK or non Treble. So.. Idk anymore tbh.

I really can't believe Xiaomi updated all their phones to at least Pie. But they don't care at all about Mi Pad 4 Plus. It wasn't a cheap tablet and even Samsung makes mid end tablets but at least provides Pie for them. And with Pie vendor we can even have Q thanks to VNDK. On Oreo this vndk thing doesn't seem to work.

Tonight I'll keep working on this vendor thing. As soon as it will boot. Fixing other bugs will be "easy".

Big Good news!! :D

My own Pie vendor booted. I also used LineageOS 16 kernel which is open source so with good amount of credits I can use it. And it's pretty good so far.

Now, why did I boot Phh Treble? Because it has least amount of security so it's best for testing stuff like ported vendors etc.

If everything goes well. In the morning I'll upload a build :)

Edit: MIUI 11 here we goo

Edit2: Fixed camera

Maybe MIUI 12

There's this app on Play Store Called "MIUI 12 eligibility test". And it says that the Mi Pad 4 is going to be able to receive the update.

Just drafted a petition on change.org.
Pls improve like post as a reply.

Nothing is certain except 1+1=1, taxes, deaths, and Mi Pad series not to receive any major system update. The Mi pad 4 was launched with a Snapdragon 660 chipset (14nm). Nevertheless, this is not an excuse of it to update to android 10 . It is evident that there are terminals that have a lower processor than the Snapdragon 660 like Snapdragon 625 on Mi A2 lite, which is on the roadmap of Android 10.

On the dark side, the support guy behind the screen rejected us for the fourth time for a newer android version, only supported by the aforementioned lame excuse which is evidence-lacking.We do not understand why Xiaomi ignored THE FULL MI PAD SERIES, WHICH IS AS SAME AS SAYING 'Don't ever try to buy Mi pad series as we will NOT provide any support to your device. This force us to either stay on the ancient android O, which was present on the Mi 5 2016 smartphone or go to unstable custom rom which is very easy to brick your device with one click.

We only ask that you to push MIUI 11/12 under Android 10 to Mi pad 4, which has the certain right to update to android 10. We are all going to sign this petition, not only the carriers of a Mi Pad 4, but also anyone which thinks their phone deserves a new os. We strongly demand Mi pad 4 to update to android 10.

I will launch the petition in 7 days if no response.
