Mi PC Suite not recognizing mi a1 please help

mi a1 being stock android the mi pc suite is not recognizing this as an mi phone.
any suggestions??

MI PC Suite does not supports Latest Android versions

It's not a MIUI phone, maybe that's the issue? Samsung phone with AOSP ROM won't work either with their own PC software, I think the support for that software is build in their own ROM
