How to install MIUI 12 onto Xiaomi devices?
Download the MIUI 12 OTA update or Recovery zip file from above.
Transfer the update zip to phone storage in the root directory. Meaning, outside every folder. If that doesn’t work, place the file in the folder ‘download_rom’.
Launch the updater app on your Xioami phone. Or go to settings > about phone > system updates.
Click on three dots on the top right corner and choose “Choose Update package”
If “Choose Update package” option desn’t show up, tap on the MIUI icon several times and check again.
Select the MIUI 12 ROM package from phone storage.
Your phone should reboot and update process will begin.
Once done, reboot to system.
Note: Don’t stop the update once started. If stopped, you will need to do the operation again right from downloading the firmware file again. This will not erase any data in your phone.

wait for eu version coming soon ?

Thanks for posting.

I returned my phone to stock by flashing the latest global fastboot image in MiFlash. My bootloader is still unlocked.

When I try, it says "Can't verify update. You're allow to flash the newest develop version published by MIUI forum from stable version only". (spelling mistake theirs).

Would I do better flashing TWRP and flashing it from there?

I flashed it via TWRP and it worked fine. Visually, it looks the same as v11 to me.

I wonder how stable the v12 .eu betas will be. I only just got my device, so I've been flashing AOSP ROMs. I was going to go with the latest .eu, but I might wait until the first v12 beta .eu is released before I set it up.

I posted a mini review of MIUI 12 on the Whirlpool forums, so I decided to post it here, too. In a nutshell, I'm not a fan of the direction Xiaomi is taking with MIUI.

--
I flashed the MIUI 12 beta build from yesterday on my Mi9 Lite. While Realme made RealmeUI more stock-like than ColorOS 6 was, Xiaomi appears to be moving MIUI in the opposite direction. I didn't mind MIUI 10, but I didn't like MIUI 11 so much. MIUI 12 is worse than ColorOS 6.

These screenshots are with the display size changed from the default of 392 to 411 to make things smaller, but you'll notice that the text is still large, and very bold. If I reduce the font thickness, it reduces the overly thick headings in the various menus, but the smaller text becomes too thin.

You'll notice the quick settings have been replaced by a near full-screen control centre, which, in my opinion, is worse than any other UI available. Luckily, there's an option to disable the control centre. I've included a screenshot of this toggle.

Downloading right now (globe rom version).
Anyone tried yet?

edit:
Okay, installation is done. Here are some first impressions:
- First boot took quite long, almost thought I had a bootloop.
- I needed a second reboot, as the new gestures weren't working right after reboot
- Some animations (especially sending app to background by swiping up = hombebutton) dont feel as smooth as in MIUI 11
- Instantly disabled the new control center. Honestly looks like a cheap iOS rip-off
- I couldn't find those new "planetary wallpapers" with the zoom in effect that were mentioned in some news about MIUI 12. May be that's because it's xiaomi.eu rom
- New camera UI looks quite nice

That's it for now. Will update if I find any problem etc.

Any camera improvements? Also waiting for battery performance!
