I totally agree and wanna add some pointers here...There is nothing wrong with asking. But there is everything wrong with asking the same question every day, in every section and always starting a new topic. You got the answer already, "currently not possible, if you want MIUI, but a device with MIUI". One would expect, that guys wanting MIUI will be satisfied, but no. They'll just create a new topic and ask the same question over and over again. If someone ports MIUI to A1, I'm pretty sure that there will be a proper topic and announcment for that.
Btw. words like "I want it too" can maybe help you to find similarly frustrated people, but that's it. Xiaomi won't read it. Google will not read it. Developers don't care, if they'll do it, it won't be because you want it (donation might be motivating though). Just look at Xposed for Nougat or Oreo topics, hundreds of useless posts like "waiting for an update..".
There are so many threads on xda for this and even elsewhere on other forums and groups people keep asking the same thing. While i understand the OP's point of view that he wants miui with a particular band support that most miui phones lack (taking op's word on it as i dont live in Europe), and of course there is nothing wrong in asking, you guys must also understand that these threads are actually doing more harm than good.
For example, there is a casual comment on this thread about using qcom flash tool to flash mi 5x rom without the person even being sure if the two phones are identical. Though there is a warning at the end of the post, there are a lot many people who don't even read things through and just try it. And as a proof of that u will see multiple threads frantically asking for help to unbrick their devices which they had bricked while trying to flash mi 5x rom on their A1. Trust me, if it was as easy as that, there would have been an official thread with a tutorial for the same.
While u have all right to ask for something and noone is stopping u but you must consider the fact that if it was doable without the kernel sources, it would have been done by now. Someone mentioned about the beauty of development but there is a requirement for development as well and developers also need the OEM to release the sources to port stable roms and unless you want a miui rom with 50-60% of ur smartphone features not working u have no option but to wait.
Lastly if u guys feel that there are certain features/apps in miui that can't be used on stock rom u r sadly mistaken. There are 3rd party apps for each and every feature/app on miui that can be installed from play store. U just require to do a little research and spend a little bit of data to get them and most of them work without root. The only exceptions would be the miui exclusive apps, which if u have been using to keep the only copy of ur backups or ur data then u must be stupid if u buy a non-miui phone. Xiaomi does not have the best track record when it comes to releasing kernel sources and surely being an avid fan of miui u must know this. Even though they have been releasing sources earlier than usual recently, i was stuck with miui with 1 gb ram on my redmi 2 for more than an year before they finally released the sources and we finally got some development going!
Being the first xiaomi phone with stock Android is the USP of this device and if u bought this wanting to get miui on it within 2-3 months of its release, then u bought a bunch of grapes hoping for it to turn to wine overnight! U should have just picked wine instead (just to clarify i am just giving an example and not equating miui with wine because that would be an insult to wine)
Don't mean to be disrespectful but sorry if someone was offended.
Cheers!
