I just converted a 720p rip of Kill The Irishman...

it converted it into 2 files, the 1st smaller than the 2nd.

it skipped/froze on my Xoom 2 minutes in.

put it on a external HD and played on my bluray player, it ran but skipped alot too. Any ideas?

Try this: Under options/tracks select: Prompt me to provide a cusotom display aspect ratio DAR for each file

When you convert your video and the prompt comes up select: 16x10 if that doesn't work try 16x9

Now i tried that, and that fixes the aspect... (stupid me...) But now i have a problem that it just plays the first ½ second, and then just the audio... Frustrating...

Is there any way to keep 5.1 audio track when converting with Xenonmkv ?. The reason I ask is because I want to convert my current library but still have the 5.1 to use when watching movies via my HTPC.

Per Xenon's homepage, no.

http://xenonmkv.ev98.net/

The purpose of remuxing to MP4 is to avoid software decoding. 5.1 AAC (or anything) in MP4 container isn't natively supported by HC 3.x, and would incur SW decode. If you want 5.1 audio, just keep the MKV and run it in software mode.

It won't play like that because its high profile. So it seems like I'll have to have a separate library for the tablet :(

See if the clip below plays smoothly on your Xoom:

http://mediafire.com/?909217fe7z4272p Avatar clip 720p HP w/ 2.0 AAC, 5.1 AAC

It has two audio tracks, first is 2.0 AAC, second is 5.1 AAC. If the Xoom can handle dual-audio MP4, then it should correctly play the first track. For your HTPC, select the 2nd track for surround.

Worked fine on my Asus Tranformer, just slowed down a tad when the beast was shot in the eye and I was able to watch it fine with both audio tracks on my HTPC. How hard is it to reencode the files to have 2 audio tracks ?, does it add much time to the conversion process ?.

I converted Battle: Los Angeles earlier in Xenonmkv and it took around 19 minutes but unfortunately I lost the 5.1 track. Do these converted clips definitely not work when only a 5.1 track is present ?.

I had a test MP4 (same clip) w/ 5.1 AAC track in the video survey thread, and those who've tried it said 5.1 can't play correctly in native model.

I can't speak for XenonMKV, but it basically doubles the audio processing time, since it has to be encoded twice. Audio processing is 10X speed, so instead of 9min for a 90min video, it'd take 18min. I may add this as an option to my script.

Is the audio processing time fixed at 10x ?. How long is the average film conversion using your scripts ?.

It depends. Youtube FLVs and most Apple videos convert in seconds since nothing is converted, just a remux. If audio is converted, then typically 10X. If audio & video, then 1-5X, depending on host PC and resolution selected.

BTW, an alternative is to use Handbrake. It allows for multiple audio tracks in MP4. Its drawback is that it always recode both audio & video, and will take substantially longer than a remuxer.

If you're going to use HB, no need to look for "special" Xoom presets. Use the AppleTV2 preset, and change the audio setting to suit your needs.

Rather convert my whole library I'm just gonna bulk convert as and when I need to such as taking some films with me when going on holiday etc for now I'll just use plex whilst at home.

Is Xenonmkv the fastest option if I'm just looking for simple conversions ?.

I've no experience with other "remuxing" or converting solutions, as I cobble my own solutions via scripts, a couple of which were posted on this forum. There are others mentioned in this thread. GotSent, Videora Xbox Converter, etc. You can try them and see.

I think your solution is best, to convert as needed, and keep separate copies for the interim. A better media player with native support for MKV will come along, as will a better SoC that can handle a fuller range of content.

Hello All,

I could use some help with this...First of all i'm not using a xoom but a transformer. The problems already start whem playing back converted files on my win7 x64.

When a file was converted I tried it with;

1: VLC--> Garbled / Scrambled frozen picture with good sound
2: Quicktime: 1 second picture then all white with good sound
3: Win Media player: good sound, good picture but framerate is waaay too high, so its like looking at fast forward with normal rate sound

When I send the file to my transformer it shows one frozen frame which does not appear to be the first frame of the file, the soundd continues to plays well from the beginning.

The above happens when I convert to 16:10 as well as 16:9

Thanks :) I'd love this to work...

PS I tried the Avatar clip posted e.mote and it worked fine on the transformer..
