SMS and WiFi Tethering on Nexus 7 3G (2012)

This mod can be flashed via TWRP or CWM recoveries on odexed and deodexed stock based ROM's and will enable SMS and Tethering options in Settings. By default SMS will appear in Hangouts as per the Nexus 5.

Revert is only for stock odexed users. Should you need to restore a deodexed ROM simply reflash it.

Notes

If you want pure WiFi tethering and no SMS then use @xtoudi's mod, found here;

[MOD][4.4][KRT16S/KRT16O] Tethering/Wifi Hotspot for the Nexus 7 3G

For USB tethering, you will need a kernel with RNDIS included, @kloon15 has compiled a stock one here although I don't know if this has been updated for Lollipop.

2013 Nexus 7 version of the mod is here

Thanks

@fisha21 for putting up with my constant ranting about Google removing SMS and helping out.

Works for me, thanks!

Did you have KRT16S or KRT16O on your device before you flashed? This is for KRT16S.

I used Google's stock images to flash boot and system from KRT16S. Then I went into TWRP recovery and rebooted in order to re-root. Then I went back into TWRP and flashed the zip.

Sorry for my English that is terrible :(

I used Google's Stock KRT16s

Course
- Fastboot OEM Unlock
- run Flash-all.bat
- after reboot : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img NOT TWPR
- reboot recovery and install supersu69.zip
- reboot in recovery ans install KRT16S SMS WiFi Tether

After Reboot did not start the Nexus and i see only the four balls

You said "NOT TWRP". Which recovery did you use, and which version?

With TWRP I have the same problem.

Just to clarify what you did:

When you flashed the OS images from fastboot, did you boot into the OS at all before trying to install this zip?

Anytime you erase data or reflash userdata.img (which it sounds like you did), you must boot once into the OS to regenerate the data partition. If it's not booting, flash system back to stock again, boot once completely, and then proceed with trying the mod.

Thanks ... but bootloop too

Hello,

I have KRT16S, flashed 4 days ago. Everything ok. I've booted, used, installed apps and so on. I came to your post, very happy to have sms back.

Tried to flash with twrp 2.6.3.1 but stuck in bootloop .....
Then after first bootloop, tried to wipe dalvik + cache .... no luck

Will restore my twrp backup and retry.

Something I've missed?

in the meantime thanks for your work.

EDIT: Sorry, I have n7 2013 ... this is for old 2012 or? my fault
