I am rooted but stock. I have no custom recovery and no rom. Would I be able to flash this using the stock recovery? If so could someone explain or link me to where I could learn.

I've never understood why people hate the IME switcher notification so much. It's a really quick and convenient way to switch keyboards. As far as I know, the only way to switch keyboards without it is to use an app, which is a really clunky solution. I don't even bother flashing roms where the switcher notification is disabled by default.

It's for people that don't use more than one keyboard. There's no point in having the option there when you only use one keyboard.

The same could be said for having multiple keyboards. I personally don't see a reason for having multiple keyboards.

Think about it a different way. You have a windows PC... You only speak English, and your keyboard/regional settings are all set for English style. Great right? Well, You know that method to change between different keyboard language inputs, aka the language bar? What if that was there all the time and you couldn't close it or get rid of it? This is the same thing, for most people they don't care to change their keyboard at all.

Does that help explain it?

I guess, but the IME switcher is pretty unobtrusive and doesn't take up any usable screen real estate, so it really doesn't bug me at all. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

If I have a ton of keyboards installed at once (I like to try out different keyboards even though I mainly use SwiftKey), I like to keep them all enabled so that I can switch on the fly. If I use the method that you suggested, I would have to leave only one of them enabled at a time and then dig into the settings whenever I want to switch.

Like I said, different strokes for different folks :)

I know I was just teasing you :D

I mainly use the default samsung keyboard, mainly because of the separate number row. I hate swype so I like to turn the notification off...
