Hey all - Just a simple mod to enable native wifi hotspot for ATT users who are stock/rooted. Flashable in recovery.

wfhs2 is from 1.26.502.10
wfhs3 is from 3.17.502.3 (4.3)

Flash in Recovery (TWRP and CWM should both work), wipe caches (cache and dalvik), reboot.

Will this alert ATT that I am using hot spot? I don't mean the whole packet analysis thing, but will it directly alert them that I am using hotspot? Thanks
While I'm not an ATT employee and cannot confirm 100% - I've used this method for years on multiple devices. As long as you're not abusing it, it should not raise any flags. I wouldn't suggest using it as your home internet service though

I flashed this, it turns on, but no one can connect correctly. With or without pass key

I don't know man.. that's the first report I've heard of it not working. You are an att user on the stock Rom? And you wiped cache and dalvik?

I flashed it but I don't see it on my apps. Exactly what am I looking for?

Yep. All of the above.

I did also use a script to delete the att bloat. Might have affected something else.

If it was the one I posted it shouldn't have any negative effects..using both on my phone

Edit: have you made any apn changes?

Nope. Honestly those are the only two things I did other then unlock, root, cwm recovery. Absolutely nothing else.

The hot spot starts fine, it shows up in people's network, they just hang when trying to connect. I tried on three other smart phones and iPad. With and with out each protection on.

Here is what I'm running. This is what the phone came with.

I'm starting to wonder if it's my phone. I'm tempted to try another Rom to see.

Edit: ok reinstalled my nandroid backup. Installed this before anything else and it works great. Not sure what happened. I'm hoping after I install other things I'll find out what messed it up.

Homeslice,

Is this the only line you had to mod to make the hotspot work for non subscribers?

Code:
<apn carrier="Entitlement" apn="phone" mcc="310" mnc="410" type="entitle" state="hidden" />

Quick question. I've heard this is not needed on dev edition...running on AT&T network. I haven't had a chance to test yet...I'm on stock dev edition...rooted...nothing else except your back-button menu mod (and THANKS for that BTW!!).

Is that right?

hey buddy!

can't tell you for sure - but try enabling it through settings/more/mobile network sharing. It'll either work or you'll get an error. I think I read that it should work out of the box though..
