Just tried the 5.2 version too, I can't see the preview and the processing circle just after taking a hdr photo, I now have a grey picture instead. Not sure if it's still processing hdr or not.

Edit : I think it doesn't, switched back to previous version

Google Camera 5.2 has been released. Will NX update?

Coming soon.

No HDR+ processing on my N5X with that version. :crying:

Google remove the HDR+ support for Nexus 2015 with the latest version, as it was built for Android P.
The good news is we can get it back, HDR+ still working fine with my test version.

Something is wrong with the system, you should not see a grey view finder.

This may be of some help, I have noticed that if I take a picture with hdr and immediately close the app (before the hdr processing is done) I get a grey picture.
I can see it in the little circle preview down right, but if I open it or try to see it in the gallery, it's all grey
I think the system force stop the hdr processing or something like that. Maybe the OP knows what's going on ?☝️
Still beat camera ever and portrait hack is a real treat!

H.

Same behavior here, wether you close it or it does crash (happens sometimes when you take several photos at once)

Okay folks, I'm quite surprise that this thread is so dead.. this camera is the best thing which could come to our n5x.
SO as goodie.. well I think I solved the grey picture thing ^^
Yes I did, at least for me :]
I went in app info, notifications and switched off/on the permission for background processing.
I can now take pictures and immediately switch to the desktop and the hdr processing works in background without stopping.
I have no idea if this will work on other devices.. but this worked for me. Stock March + ElementalX kernel and magisk root.
Hope this helps some of you
Gruß,
H.
**Edit**
Seems actually that it's another setting. ^^ I had to change a lot. So, it's in app info, advanced and then allow the camera to modify system. Works on a second totally stock n5x so it has to be it :)

Why portrait mode doesn't work on my 5x (8.1 unrooted)?
I tried a few versions (7.2-7.3-7.31) and I can only get it working with selfie camera

You need a human face show in the photo.

Thanks for sharing, like I said, ZSL HDR+ needs at least 3G RAM to run. After I get my N5X 3G RAM installed and no more crashs with this mod.

Yeah it happen. May our device does not have enough RAM to handle such huge task.
I recommend to install the Brevent on Play store, to clean up useless background apps for more RAM.

btw, new version is up.
Base on Google Camera 5.2
1. Bring back HDR+ on Nexus 5X/6P.
2. Add Lens Blur mode.
3. EIS should be back to normal on Pixel 1, as EIS will be disabled with 4K quality with official version.
4. Active Google photos combination to view results again on enhanced version.
Details and download link for V7.4

Only tested the not enhanced version. It doesn't remember the HDR setting. Wether the HDR off nor the HDR on setting is stored after closing the app. It always starts in HDR auto mode.

7.4 ZSL enhanced doesn't seem to work on Nexus 5X with the magisk module for 60 fps (ABC ROM, 8.1, EXKernel). Camera crashes and cannot be restarted unless the 7.4 version is uninstalled and the phone rebooted. I have not yet tried the non enhanced version or disabling the magisk module, though.

Edit:
Didn't read the entire release article. Nexus 5X's 2 GB RAM is not enough.

Version 7.3.1 ZSL enhanced is still working fine.

Edit 2:
7.3.1 works as long as you don't take more than a couple HDR photos at once. Processing the photos eventually fills the RAM and causes the app to crash.

Can relate this, and again, with "system modifications" allowed, no more grey picture on Oreo stock 8.1 March. Much sweetness ??

Hello, thanks for the mod, but there's a bug:
The modes of HDR + always "reset" when exiting the camera application :(

Camera NX, aka Google Camera mod with Face retouch, Motion photo, Smart burst, 240FPS slow motion and ZSL / 6P HDR+ for Nexus 5X & 6P.

*You can enable EIS for camcorder by add two lines in the /system/build.prop file.

    Code:
    persist.camera.eis.enable=1
    persist.camera.is_mode=4

    Last update: 2018/03/24
    Version: v7.4

    App info
Installed as Camera NX, no need to disable the stock camera.
    Package name: com.google.android.GoogleCameraNX1
    Require:
    V5.5+, Android 7.1+, ARM 64.
V5.4 and under, Android 7.0+, ARM 64. ( currently, V5.5+ will only works on 7.1.1 DP1 , 7.1 custom rom users can find solution below. Android 7.0 users please choose the No ZSL version )
    Shortcuts required Android 7.1

To 6P user: App will function the same as original G camera, add Hybrid burst, higher video bitrate.

    Bugs:

-ZSL-enhanced: After shooting photos, review it and you will see a black screen not pictures review, need to wait for HDR+ process .

    Old version (V5.5-):
    - No bugs with Android 7.1 ( If you are using V4, the flash won'r fire in HDR+ Auto mode, need to set it on manually. )
    - As the Camera 4.2+ using some code within Android 7.1 kernel, some bugs may appeared when running with Android 7.0, custom kernel may cause this too but I'm not sure:
    1. Flash mode with HDR off seems broken. (Android 7.0)
    2. Auto HDR+ with manual exposure / AF/AE lock can't take a picture, you need to set HDR+ on or off when using manual exposure and AF/AE lock. (Android 7.0)

    * Still working on the 1080p 60fps, experiment succeed with
60FPS video recording succeed with How to fix black viewer in some custom roms for Nexus 5X. ( 7.1 / CM14.1 )

    1. Put this file in /System/framework/, set its permission to rw-r-r.
    View attachment com.google.android.camera.experimental2016.jar

    2. Put this file to /System/etc/permission/ set its permission to rw-r-r.

    03/24/2018 V7.4
    Base on Google Camera 5.2
    1. Bring back HDR+ on Nexus 5X/6P.
    2. Add Lens Blur mode.

    12/31/2017 V7.3
Current the new version is only for Android 8.0+, will release the updated version for Android 7.0.
    1. Add the most wanted feature, Portrait mode (use Pixel 2's front lens software method, it needs a human face shows up to work.).
    2. Remove silence feedback service, crash report service, and the broken Help menu, for faster app launch.
    3. Remove Google photos combination, motion photo still works but you need to view it through Google photos manually.
I have named it wrong and this one should be the ZSL-enhanced version, sorry for the wrong package errors on Android 7.1.2
Details and download link for V7.3

    Update 11/06/2017 V7.2.0
This is bug fix version, not only for Pixel 2016, everyone who are using enhanced version should grab this update.
    1. Fix crash issue on Pixel 2016.
    2. Fix provider author name mistake lead to a thumbnail generation issue.
    3. Motion pictures should be saved with file name "MVIMG-####-##" right now, it became "IMG-####-##" in V7.1 version, which was wrong, this might mess the G photos when index media files.
Enhanced version users should get the experimental2017 library now.
Sorry, after some more test it seems experimental2017 is not necessary, just install the new version it will be ok.
About the Lens-blur photo editor, it will be available after the picture upload to Google cloud.
