After you download it on your phone it will either be on the root of your sd card or in your "downloads" folder. From there you must unzip it, edit it, and move it to your /data folder on the phone memory. Root Explorer is the best tool for this. I haven't been able to test successfully with other file mangers. Can someone tell me where exactly the eri file is located using root explorer

We're all human right? Typo on my part. Good looking out.Not to be a jerk, but cd is change directory, not direction. I don't get to contribute much when it comes to the phones, so thats the best kind of help I can offer here![]()
Glad it worked out for you! Sorry I couldn't post up some instructions earlier. Work was crazy busy tonight and it would have been a lot to type from the phone. Regardless, I am pleased to hear that you made it work with what you had.Hey Karadorde, I really want to thank u for this. My friend has a hero and there phones usb port is messed up so could not use adb or anything like cdma workshop. I did it straight from there phone using astro and root explorer and worked like a charm. Whoever said this method wasnt as easy as the method they used, all I can say this literally took 30 seconds max. No computer, no adb, no nothing just a phone. Incredible find my friend. U made me a hero tonight and I thank u.

yes, but that requires hex editing. this doesn't, at least on cm. different demographics...here is a method to change lockscreen and status bar on most roms

Seems like it should work with what u added to the op but if someone had root explorer the way I did it might be easier. I used astro, the free version to extract and then used astro to edit the text and change sprint to whatever and then went to root explorer and went into sd card where I had the eri.xml saved. Copied it and then went into data and pasted. Took less than 30 seconds. Thanks again though. U da man. We're all human right? Typo on my part. Good looking out.

I have updated the OP with instructions on how to complete the edit entirely from the phone. Test them out for me and let me know if they work. I can do the edit entirely from the phone, I just want to make sure the instructions or written properly.
Yea, Root Explorer makes it a lot easier because you can paste directly to /data. I know some people don't like to pay for apps sometimes, so I figured I would write a tutorial for how to do it completely free. Plus I figured if someone has Root Explorer then they will be able to figure it out pretty easily. I will probably throw that in the OP too for good measure though. If you flash a nightly then the modification will remain. If you do a full wipe and a fresh install of a rom then you will lose it an have to start from scratch.Major Kudos! It worked and I did it all from my phone!
I downloaded the free version of Astro and used that and the File Manger app that comes with CM.
Used File Manager and selected the file from my download folder for Dolphine. The used the Move feature and placed it on the root of my SD card. Then used Astro to extract the file to the SD card. Then used Astro and used the text editor and change the Sprint name. Saved it and then used File Manger and copied and moved it to the Data file in the SD card (thought at first it was the data file on the main part of the phone). Then pulled up terminal emulator and typed in your commands and rebooted!
Great work! Seriously glad I didn't have to use other methods to change it!
I suppose if I flashed or wiped completely that I would just have to use the commands in terminal to get it to work again?
Me neither.. I mean, karadorde is a fine upstanding xda citizen (who blames everything on me). This contribution is extremely helpful.Yeah it is awesome. I'm surprised that thus thread isn't more popular.
