I'm running the stock odexed rom.
All I'm saying is someone said it worked on DeOdex. As in, if you really want this mod, flash the stock DeOdex NJ2 by Chad the Pathfinder. Or you could try doing the edits to the services.jar. I never use this mod so it's honestly at the very bottom of my to-do list. If I even get around to it at all, I probably wouldn't do the Odex anyways because it's a pain.

Here are the files needed for the NJ2 hotspot mod. services.jar for deodexed stock roms, services.odex for odexed stock roms. Hopefully someone can make a flashable zip out of these.
I'll make them flashable after dinner

Edit: I'll get to them tomorrow

Just tried the NJ2 Odex and it won't boot up.

Can anyone give me any help? Just installed the stock deodexed NJ2 and flash the deodexed hotspot mod but that won't boot either.

Try wiping cache and dalvik cache in recovery after flashing. I don't know, I'm not on NJ2, I simply made the files another user said work into flashable zips... I never got confirmation if they worked.

Hey Ryan, is there a working NJ2 hotspot mod zip file? I know like the other person said before the odex and deodexed nj2 zips you shared don't work. I am setting someone's phone up for them.

Thanks!
The ND8 DeOdexed one works on DeOdexed NJ2. I would personally just flash a custom ND8 ROM as the NJ2 update is relatively pointless. Both of my ROMs (check signature) have most of the NJ2 update in them and the hotspot mod as well.

If you are rooted, you can just replace the file from post #583.
I am running stock NJ2 rooted with the custom services.odex file and it works. I never tested the zips.

how to change service.odex for new one for hotspot

I tested by just replacing the odex file and it works with the original jar.
I have tried to use es file explorer to re-name services.odex to services.bak and then replace it with the one downloaded from post but i cannot gain access to the file. it is probably in use and will not let me copy, change names or move it. How did you do it if you please sir?

You have to grant ES root permissions and make system R/W.

I had moved the button "Root Explorer" to "on" in ES file explorer. (pops out from the left side "fast access" slider when you tap the properties button) If that's what you refer to, but as to "make system R/W" I am in the dark. Could you shine your brain flashlight on that and explain how I might do that please. I will now google it too, like a diligent un-lazy person and read a bunch of irrelevant things and somehow end up losing an hour but knowing all about artisan yak cheese production.....

I haven't used ES in awhile, so no I can't. I use Root Explorer from the Play Store and that will work for you out of the box.

Yargh, I wasn't getting that menu in your picture...I checked and I had forgotten to re-install Supersu!
I had updated to NJ2 with a wipe data/Factory reset in Philz. Re-rooted with Philz. I tried Taking my original ND8HotspotMod-odex.zip that had been working for me and replacing the services.odex in the zip withthe one from post #583 and installing with Philz; update did not work. So I tried just using the old zip. Terrible idea. Now the phone boots to the samsung screen and hangs. Crap. I Odined NJ2 without wipe etc. (ok i think in this case?) All of this was too much effort it seems. All you need to do is replace Services.odex, that's it. I over-thought what was clearly stated!
So, a re-cap for those who might benefit. I updated to NJ2 with Odin. Installed Philz with Odin. Used re-root in Philz. Installed Supersu and es file explorer. Turned on "Root Explorer" under "fast access" menu(slides from left by pressing phone menu button). which revealed a pop-up menu. Pressed "Mount R/W" and selected RW buttons. Downloaded "services.odex" from post #583. Copied the original services.odex located in /system>framework to another folder for back-up. Pasted the downloaded services.odex into the /system>framework and overwrite. (this took a few seconds). Phone re-booted itself. I checked the file size of the Services.odex file in /system>framework to see if it was indeed 7.27mb (the new file) and had been replaced. I tested it with my kindle and computer. It works! ( I assume if I am not getting a message saying I will be charged by sprint or something that it is working) Cheers!
