Hi @Jackwu696,

Aye, no I'm glad you've still replied... Even though I have now sorted it, and solved my memory shortage issue by use of PITs and got it to work in the end. I've been asking for days about various memory storage issues, and solutions and everyone got ignored (not necessarily in the N7000 threads) and when asked about the PIT method, was still over a day or so before anyone posted in the thread, even though it wasn't in relation to my query. I thought for a thread with as many pages in replies, yet no one seemed to share any info... I'm used to waiting, but as I've re-built my phone many many times over during festive season, due to other failed work-arounds for lack of storage, I kinda hoped for an answer sooner, as was going out that night and needed it working... / I'm used to waiting normally.. :)

Even though it was all explained in the original post, I just thought the way it was worded, left me a little confused... As it seemed to suggest to me the same thing, both a PreLoad PIT or not... seemed to end in same result. And so was confused as to which I needed, if I wanted to flash (or return) to a stock rom. I thought if I chose the one with a smaller (but still EXISTANT) PreLoad, that I would have more chances... From your information, it turns out I was wrong...

Wished I had seen your advice before I flashed the previous PIT, as it now makes more sense to me.... Unfortunately I went with the PIT that had a 45MB PreLoad, and a 4GB /Data partition. So now if I flashed a Stock Rom (beit official Stock from Sammy, or a DeOxed Custom Stock) I'm gonna run into issues...

So would you advise, if I ever wished to return to factory firmware stock... That I now need to flash a PIT with NO PreLoad and then flash Stock PIT. Or can I just flash Stock PIT without anything else before hand...?? In future, I will just flash NON-PreLoad as it's not needed for any ROMs other than official stock, and even then ya need the STOCK PIT layout, and not the reduced PreLoad PIT....

I am ever so grateful for these PITs, and it is easier (NOW) than I had first thought.... Actually makes our N7000's more useful again.... :)

Many thanks, Lister
It's okay Lister, You don't have to flash the PIT now. Just remember to flash any NON Preload PIT before reverting back to stock base roms though. I think just a measly amount of 50 MB should not be worth the effort of reflashing PIT Files though, especially if we are a flash freak, LoL.

Hi Rafi,

Yes, not sure why the PreLoad ones exist, as you can't flash a stock rom to them anyway.... So yeah, go with the NON-PreLoad, and flash the 4GB PIT...

Then you should be able to install any (custom) rom you like, and have 4Gb /Data partition to enjoy mroe Apps too.. :)

Cheers, Lister

Hai, if i want to partition my internal into 4gb, and then want to flash cm12, which one should i choose? Non preload?

Oh now i get it. But one question, i can flash the non preload 4 gb PIT with stock firmware right? And then flash cm12?

Non preload will work on cm12, but if you decide to flash TW based ROM, you have to repartition again with preload.

Hi Dev_Freak,

Download the zip file first to your C: drive (or any drive). And then open up Odin on PC, select PIT file, select RePartition (tick box) and then load up a Kernel file (in MD5 or TAR format). Then do the normal Odin flash....

Cheers, Lister

Do I need the PIT files or only the ZIP file? I use nightowl cm12 Beta3 BTW.

Is it really necessary that we have to go back to full STOCK 4.1.2?
can we use any custom TW 4.1.2 ROM? as it's difficult to download stock 4.1.2 coz of it's size and slow net connection.
OR can I simply flash Philz Kernel first and then use PIT and Philz again? (is taking shortcut allowed)? (currently as I am on CM12-RESURRECTION REMIX LP)

Also, I am using ManjaroLinux, So is it safe to run ODIN via windows in VirtualBox?

yes use kernel rather than rom, it's fine. Not so sure on virtual box, that'll be down to how well the USB ports get emulated, interested to know how it goes, report back :)

Hi @metalgearhathaway / All,

Ok guys, as you know/aware... I went through this process, and all went well (in the end). Unfortunately I went with the one that used a smaller PreLoad area, of about 45Mb. Not the end of the world, as it still gave me 4GB partition for Apps/Data.

However, I went to install either of the two Lollipop builds, and ended in a continual loop of the splash screen until the battery drains. However if I install a KitKat based rom, all works fine...

So I used the STOCK PIT to return to stock layout, and the Lollipop roms install fine...

So now that I am back to STOCK PIT LAYOUT, as it originally shipped I went to install the correct PIT (4gb) this time, without any /PreLoad partition. I check in a disk storage App, and see I still have a 500Mb assigned to /PreLoad.... (as though it ignores and leaves it there anyway???)

Have I done something wrong, not formatted something correctly...??

Thanks, Lister

Hola lister.

As I stated before, flashing a non preload PIT will allow a small partition of "preload" to be left in your device. There's nothing wrong with it.

Hola @Jackwu696,

We meet again, my good friend.... a-haaaa!!! ;) lol

Sorry, I think I mis-understood your original post (and the OP 1st post too). Although I think I've finally got it, the penny has finally DROPPED!!! :p lol

So basically, the PreLoad PIT that I used at first, the one that had 45Mb PreLoad and 4GB data... Basically restores some of the 500Mb of normal PreLoad and shared somewhere else in system. But is not compatible with many roms.... So....

1) Stock PIT - Is when you've had enough of all the d*cking around, you gonna sell ya Note to a stranger, so you return it back to a 2GB /Data partition and a 500MB /PreLoad

2) 45Mb PreLoad PIT - Is when you want to increase your /Data from 2GB to 4GB/6GB/8GB/10GB/12GB, but also reduce your 500MB /PreLoad down to 45Mb so that the rest of the 455Mb is shared else where on the phone. However this PIT (despite its added storage benefit, is not all that compatible with newer ROMS)

3) Non-PreLoad PIT - Actually does still contain the 500Mb /PreLoad, and is as close to stock PIT as can be, just it increases the measly 2GB /Data, to 4GB/6GB/8GB/10GB/12GB... It keeps the 500Mb /PreLoad, but you can flash Stock and Custom roms with this...??

Think I've got it now..... LOL

Thanks, Lister

If I was a teacher and you are attending my class then I would give you an A for that answer, just A instead of A+ for failing to understand that the first time. LOL
