I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I have to ask. I am using mdl firmware, and I downloaded the mdl zip. So, after making a backup, I can flash that zip on whatever rom I am on, and the padlock screen is removed, or do I need to be on a stock rooted rom?

Edit: I mainly use aosp roms. I'm starting to think this will not do me any good because I feel the padlock will return as soon as I flash one of those roms.

Usually the firmware is - if official - odin flashable TAR - not zip.

If you use AOSP, its simple, just like others, follow this procedure:

Procedure:

  • Flash Stock Rom (eg. MDL) via Odin
  • Enable USB debugging and then Root by Motochopper
  • Flash Custom recovery (easy by goomanager for TWRP)
  • From recovery Flash the mdl-remove-SysScope.zip (see OP)
  • Reboot and check your status (OFFICIAL). You are done.
Now flash whatever AOSP :)

IMPORTANT:
The procedure will remove all your data [titaniumBackup it]. You may also (accidentally) remove wipe your internal sd, so make sure you transfer your stuff to some external source ESPECIALLY your TB backup folder, it is always wise to keep it in external sd
